Vietnamese martial artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen made a splash at the 2023 World Taekwondo Championships after defeating Mexico's Daniela Paola Souza - the reigning world champion.
Truong Thi Kim Tuyen is considered the hope of Vietnamese Taekwondo and this girl from Vinh Long made the fans burst into tears when she defeated Daniela Paola Souza in the 1/8 round match of the 49kg category on the afternoon of May 31. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen won with a score of 2-0 (7-3, 6-5) against this extremely strong opponent.
On the competition day of May 31, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen also excellently defeated two other opponents, Nadia Omar (Somali) and Tien Yu Jhuan (Chinese Taipei).

Participating in the 2023 World Taekwondo Championship, in addition to martial artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team has athletes Bac Thi Khiem, Tran Nguyen Anh Ngan, Pham Minh Bao Kha and Tran Thi Anh Tuyet. Of which, Tran Thi Anh Tuyet and Tran Nguyen Anh Ngan stopped at the round of 16 in their weight class.
The World Championships are very important for Truong Thi Kim Tuyen and Vietnamese boxers. This tournament provides an opportunity for Vietnamese boxers to accumulate points to seek a place at the 2024 Olympics.
The 2023 World Taekwondo Championships will take place in Baku (Azerbaijan) from May 29 to June 4 with 14 sets of medals corresponding to 14 competing weight categories. Of which, the men's event has 7 weight categories including 54kg, 58kg, 63kg, 68kg, 74kg, 80kg, 87kg. In the women's event, the Organizing Committee will award medals in 7 weight categories: 46kg, 49kg, 53kg, 57kg, 62kg, 67kg, 73kg.
During her career, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen has won many titles. At the 32nd SEA Games, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen won a silver medal. The girl born in 1997 won the 2021 Asian Gold Medal and won a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
