To date, Laos has established diplomatic relations with about 150 countries. Joining ASEAN in 1997, Laos has gradually asserted its important position in the "common home" of Southeast Asian countries with three successful ASEAN Chairmanships in 2004, 2016 and 2024. This is clear evidence that Laos' position is increasingly consolidated and enhanced in the international arena.
The great achievements in politics, economy, society, security and foreign affairs demonstrate the correct and wise line of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Vietnam and Laos have always stood side by side in the fight against the common enemy for national independence. Today, the two countries continue to cooperate in socio-economic development. Political relations are increasingly close and trustworthy, playing a core role in guiding the overall relationship between the two countries. Cooperation in trade, defense-security, culture, education, etc., as well as coordination at regional and international forums have all achieved practical results.
Not only focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia also pay attention to promoting relations between the three countries and effectively implementing tripartite cooperation mechanisms.
Looking back on the past, the people of Vietnam and Laos are proud of the formation and development of the rare pure and loyal relationship between the two nations. Vietnam and Laos have gone through a long journey together, where the two countries have always stood side by side, ready to sacrifice for each other. That journey is being continued by generations of leaders and people of the two countries, so that the friendship and close bond between Vietnam and Laos will be a solid foundation for both countries on the development path ahead with many intertwined opportunities and challenges.
