The family of Ms. Lang Thi Pai, in Na Tinh village, is one of the pioneering households in raising Thai goats in Chien Thang commune.
Ms. Pai shared: "Previously, my family raised a local breed of goat, which was small, had low weight, and unstable selling prices, so the economic efficiency was not high. After learning about the Thai goat farming model, in 2024, my family boldly bought 20 breeding goats to raise. Recognizing the economic efficiency of the model, in 2025, my family borrowed 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to expand the scale, increasing the herd to 50-60 goats per batch. Thai goats are a large breed, grow quickly, and have a higher selling price than local breeds. In early 2026, my family sold one batch (50 goats), earning over 450 million VND. Currently, my family has restocked, imported an additional 60 breeding goats, and is focusing on caring for them."
Not only Ms. Pai's family, but in recent times, many households in Chien Thang commune have boldly invested in developing goat farming, mainly raising Thai goats. Alongside the proactive efforts of the people, the commune government has also focused on allocating funds from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas... to implement projects supporting goat farming development. Accordingly, from 2025 to the present, 4 projects have been implemented in the commune, with a scale of 900 goats and a total budget of 4.3 billion VND. Participating households and cooperatives receive support in terms of breeding stock, feed, and technical guidance on goat care...
Mr. Hoang Van Luc, Director of Na Ha Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative in Chien Thang commune, said: The cooperative was established at the end of 2024 with 10 members, mainly engaged in goat farming. At the end of 2025, the cooperative received support in the form of 406 breeding goats and feed for goat farming. In early 2026, the cooperative sold over 400 commercial goats, weighing 45-48 kg each, with prices ranging from 200,000 to 210,000 VND/kg, generating revenue of over 3.6 billion VND.
The entire Chien Thang commune currently has a total goat population of over 1,000 (mainly Thai goats), concentrated in the villages of Na Ha, Na Tinh, and Ban Du. From developing goat farming, local people earn between 80 and over 200 million VND per year.
Mr. Dao Duy Tung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chien Thang commune, said: "In reality, the Thai goat farming model has been bringing clear economic benefits, contributing to increased income and sustainable poverty reduction. In the coming time, the commune government will continue to promote and encourage people to replicate the model; at the same time, coordinate with specialized agencies to organize training courses and transfer livestock farming techniques to people; and support people in accessing preferential capital to develop livestock farming in a concentrated, safe manner, linked with product consumption."
With its proven effectiveness, Thai goat farming is becoming a suitable economic development direction, contributing to increasing people's income. Expanding this model promises to create stable livelihoods and gradually reduce poverty sustainably in the locality.
