“The Tale of Kieu” - a masterpiece of Vietnamese medieval literature has long been a part of the national consciousness. With 3,254 six-eight verses, the work not only reflects the tragic fate of Thuy Kieu but also demonstrates the artistic talent and humanitarian spirit of Nguyen Du. Scholar Pham Quynh once affirmed: “As long as the Tale of Kieu remains, our language remains; as long as our language remains, our country remains.”

Artist Nguyen Cong Hoan, a familiar face of Kim Dong Publishing House, brings a new look to the masterpiece of narrative poetry with more than 40 color illustrations.
The paintings are hand-painted on thin paper, using yellow and green tones to create an ancient atmosphere, depicting typical scenes such as the Thuy Kieu and Thuy Van sisters playing the zither, the Thanh Minh festival, the meeting with Kim Trong, etc. It took him more than two years to complete, many paintings were redrawn many times to achieve the best effect.
Artist Ta Huy Long assessed this as a Vietnamese-style illustration, with familiar details such as willow trees, bamboo clumps, areca nuts, and banana trees. Editor Nguyen Thanh Huong said the artist is always meticulous, receptive, and puts a lot of heart into each painting.

The new edition is part of Kim Dong Publishing House's efforts to bring classic works such as "Linh Nam Chich Quai", "Truyen Ky Man Luc", "Nam Hai Di Nhan Liet Truyen"... closer to young readers.
The publisher hopes that the illustrated version of “The Tale of Kieu” will bring new experiences, contributing to preserving the immortal value of the work in Vietnamese cultural life.
