Focus on consolidating knowledge
On the morning of December 1, the flag-raising ceremony at Tran Nhan Tong Secondary School (Dien Khanh Commune) was completely different from usual. Without a microphone and speaker system due to complete damage after the first floor was flooded 1.8m deep, teacher Dang Huu Hanh - Principal used a loudspeaker to remind students about safety issues after floods, personal hygiene, and prevention of cold-season diseases... He also encouraged students to stabilize their spirits and quickly get back to studying after many days off school to avoid flooding.

Mr. Hanh said that the recent flood had damaged all the equipment on the first floor, including 2 computer rooms with 48 computers; 563/1,023 students completely lost their books and school supplies. On November 29, the school gathered all students to grasp the situation and encourage them. Thanks to the support of benefactors, each student was given 10 notebooks and 3 pens to ensure the minimum conditions for returning to school. The priority task at this time is to restore the learning routine, helping students gradually catch up with the program. The school has directed the professional team to review the interrupted knowledge, adjust the appropriate make-up teaching plan, and prioritize the transmission of core knowledge. Due to the lack of textbooks, classes are organized flexibly, students share books with each other to study. Le Nguyen Phuong Uyen, class 8/2, said: “The school has provided us with books, notebooks, some clothes, pens and organized make-up classes for us. I hope to quickly consolidate my knowledge to achieve good results in this semester’s final exam.”
At Dien Son Primary School (Dien Dien Commune), since the morning of December 1, the sound of reading lessons has been heard in classrooms still covered by floodwaters. Teacher Nguyen Van Chien - Principal of the school said that 80% of the school's students have lost their textbooks due to the flood. For now, the school is using some old desks and chairs for teachers and students to use, and is continuing to mobilize support for books for students. Before resuming classes, the school has checked the electricity, water, walls, ceilings, playgrounds, etc. Sanitation, disinfection, ensuring clean water sources and disease prevention are also given attention. For now, teachers are focusing on testing and systematizing knowledge for students.
At Nguyen Du Secondary School (Dien Lac Commune), teaching and learning have been reorganized a few days ago. However, to fully stabilize the school, the school still needs more time, because the recent flood damaged all textbooks of 591/770 students. According to Ms. Phan Thi Xuan Hieu - Vice Principal of the school, for now, the school will lend students books in the library, and at the same time encourage those who still have books to share with those who are lacking books.
Urgently equip textbooks for schools
Mr. Le Dinh Thuan - Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Education and Training said: On December 1, the last 28 schools among those severely damaged by floods in the province welcomed students back to school, concentrated in Dien Khanh and Dien Dien communes... The Department has asked schools to focus on stabilizing teaching and learning, ensuring that the program is not interrupted and absolutely ensuring the safety of students and teachers. The current difficulty is the lack of desks, chairs and textbooks. The Department has proposed the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds to equip desks, chairs and teaching equipment for schools. On December 1, the Department received nearly 200,000 textbooks (phase 1), worth more than 4 billion VND, supported by the Vietnam Education Publishing House and its member units. The Department is continuing to work with schools that have not yet fully recorded the damage to provide additional support in the next phase.
