On March 10, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reappointed Mr. Rafael Grossi as Director General of the agency for a second four-year term.

The decision was made by the IAEA's 35-member Board of Governors at its quarterly meeting, the IAEA said in a statement. Grossi's reappointment will need approval from all 176 IAEA member states at the agency's annual General Conference in September.

Mr Grossi, 62, is expected to begin his second term in early December. He was first appointed as IAEA Director General in December 2019.

Speaking after being reappointed for a second term, Mr. Grossi pledged to do his utmost to carry out the IAEA's important mission of contributing to global peace and development in a context where the world is facing many major challenges.

Mr. Grossi is the sixth Director General of the IAEA since its establishment in 1957. He is a diplomat with 35 years of experience in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation.
