According to RT, in a letter to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on November 12, President Trump called for a full pardon for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - who is facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
Prime Minister Netanyahu could face up to 10 years in prison on bribery charges, while the two fraud and breach of trust charges carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

In an official letter released by the office of Israeli President Isaac Herzog on November 12, President Trump wrote: "While I fully respect the independence of the Israeli Judicial System and its requirements, I believe the 'case' against Mr. Netanyahu is a politically motivated and unjustified prosecution. I urge a full pardon for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
President Trump has repeatedly called for a pardon for Mr. Netanyahu, but this is the first formal request to President Herzog on the matter and a rare direct appeal by an American leader on a legal matter to a close ally.
In response, President Herzog's office reportedly stated that while Israel appreciates President Trump, any individual seeking a pardon must submit a formal request according to established procedures.
According to RT, the Israeli president still has the authority to issue pardons. However, the request for pardon must come from the accused individual, their legal representative, or a family member. So far, neither Prime Minister Netanyahu nor his close associates have applied for a pardon.
However, the Jerusalem Post notes that a presidential pardon cannot be issued at this stage of the trial.
