Speculation has swirled in Ukraine for weeks that President Zelenskyy is about to fire the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. The two have been at odds over the nearly two-year war with Russia.

"When I talk about change, I think of something serious that is not related to a person, but to the direction of the country's leadership," Mr Zelenskyy told Italy's RAI television when asked about Zaluzhnyi.
"It's a question of who will lead Ukraine. A reset is necessary. I'm talking about replacing some state leaders, not only in the military sphere. I'm thinking about this replacement. This is a question for the entire country's leadership."
“We must all go together in one direction, we must not be discouraged, we must have the right and positive energy, the negativity must be left at home. We cannot have an attitude of giving up,” Mr. Zelenskyy said.
Twice in the past week, Ukrainian media have reported that Zaluzhnyi is about to be fired. The two leading candidates are Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander of the ground forces, and Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the intelligence service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry .
