Pa U develops medicinal herbs under the forest canopy

LAI CHAU Pa U Commune (Lai Chau) will focus on developing Lai Chau ginseng, a unique medicinal plant grown under the forest canopy... to form a valuable commodity production industry.

Pa U is a particularly difficult commune, mainly inhabited by La Hu ethnic people. The people have now changed their mindset, proactively expanded the area, and developed medicinal plants as a result of the efforts of the local Party Committee and government in implementing the province's economic development policies and orientations. In particular, the work of forest protection and the development of medicinal plants under the forest canopy has been actively and effectively implemented by the commune.

Previously, the Party Committee and the communal government coordinated with specialized agencies to conduct surveys and plan economic development zones associated with medicinal plants such as: Areas with an altitude of over 1,500m above sea level carried out forest protection and care for the stable area of ​​cardamom trees, and planted additional trees to replace old, low-yield trees.

At the same time, call on and attract investors to cooperate with people to plant, preserve and develop Lai Chau ginseng and other precious medicinal plants. In the middle region, at altitudes from 800m to 1,500m, organize planting of red fruit trees; in areas with altitudes below 800m, plan areas for growing cinnamon and purple cardamom under the forest canopy.

These plants have been bringing in hundreds of millions of dong per year to local people. Some households have also successfully grown seven-leaf one-flower plants and Lai Chau ginseng under the forest canopy at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters above sea level.
