The Athletic and other leading newspapers in England have reported that the Spanish manager will leave Man City after the 2025/26 season, even though his current contract runs until 2027. The Citizens' leadership has already prepared a plan to appoint Maresca as Pep's replacement.
Maresca is no stranger to Man City. The Italian coach previously worked in the club's youth system, leading the Man City U21 team to win the Premier League 2 title, before becoming Guardiola's assistant during the 2022/23 treble-winning season. Maresca has absorbed Pep's philosophy, which is a significant advantage. The strategist born in 1980 has managed Leicester and Chelsea, accumulating experience and ready to take on a new role at Man City.
The news of Guardiola's departure after this season has sent shockwaves through English football. The Athletic called it the end of one of the most successful eras in Premier League history. Many fans were surprised because the Spanish strategist was still doing a good job at the Etihad Stadium.
