2025 marks a historic milestone as the Group officially adopts a new name: Vietnam National Energy and Industry Group. This change is not just a name change, but a strong commitment from a leading economic entity: to maintain its pivotal role while proactively building a foundation for green and modern energy to help the country achieve breakthroughs in the new era.

Ensuring energy for development

Amidst volatile global energy markets, Petrovietnam continues to play a pivotal role, contributing to ensuring "energy for development." Crude oil production reversed its downward trend and began growing for the first time in 11 years; oil and gas facilities operate safely and stably with a production efficiency of over 99.6%. The domestic reserve replenishment ratio reached 1.09 times, creating long-term development potential for the energy sector.

In the petroleum sector, production output in 2025 far exceeded the plan, promptly meeting domestic market demand. PVOIL achieved a sales volume of 6 million cubic meters of petroleum products, expanding its network to 950 stores, making a significant contribution to market stability and ensuring a smooth supply.

In the electricity sector, Petrovietnam continues to affirm its position as one of the leading electricity producers, with an estimated output of over 31 billion kWh, accounting for approximately 9% of the total system output. In particular, the Nhon Trach 3&4 LNG power plant project has been completed and is operating commercially, adding a crucial power source to the national electricity system, especially in the South.

In the gas industry, the systems are operated safely and efficiently; gas, LPG, and LNG production have all exceeded targets, ensuring essential energy sources for production, transportation, and people's lives.

All these figures are vivid evidence of Petrovietnam's role as a steadfast "guardian" of energy security. However, the Group's contributions are not limited to dry numbers, but are vividly present in every aspect of daily life: from the blue flame in each family's gas stove, the liters of gasoline powering every journey, to the electricity that lights homes and the gas and electricity that power factories and enterprises. Each target exceeded is a commitment to stability, a persistent lifeline that nourishes the economy and improves the quality of life for the people.

It can be affirmed that, in the journey of ensuring national energy security, Petrovietnam has always played a leading role, supplying the most essential energy sources for the economy. From having no oil or gas reserves, to having extracted over 440 million tons of oil and brought ashore nearly 200 billion cubic meters of gas over the past half-century, Petrovietnam has ensured a significant portion of the essential energy for production, consumption, and economic development of the country, as well as macroeconomic stability – a foundation for Vietnam to maintain growth even during periods of severe market and geopolitical fluctuations worldwide.

Building a national energy sector

Faced with the irreversible energy transition, Petrovietnam affirms its strategic vision by identifying green transformation as a vital element for sustainable development. The Prime Minister's Decision 733/QD-TTg dated April 9, 2025, on renaming Petrovietnam to the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group, marks a significant strategic turning point for Petrovietnam in 2025. This change demonstrates Petrovietnam's determination to transform from a traditional oil and gas exploration and production unit into a diverse and environmentally friendly energy ecosystem, contributing to the realization of the country's Net Zero goal. Alongside this, the Group is committed to its mission of "building national energy," meeting the objective of providing a stable and reliable energy source, forming a solid foundation for all socio-economic activities and the nation's aspiration for prosperity.

From an expert's perspective, Dr. Vo Tri Thanh believes that the new name reflects Petrovietnam's strategic aspirations to usher in a new era of development, contributing to the country's goal of rapid and sustainable growth. According to him, this new name comes with heavier responsibilities, requiring the Group not only to excel in its core oil and gas sector but also to affirm its mission in new and renewable energy fields.

Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Petrovietnam, Le Ngoc Son, affirmed that one of the unforgettable historical milestones for the Group in 2025 is the pivotal moment that opens a new era with a new name. This is not just a change in name, but an affirmation of the position, stature, and immense responsibility that the Party, State, and Prime Minister have entrusted to Petrovietnam in the era of national progress. Accordingly, the Group aims to create green energy models based on modern science and technology, aggressively expanding into the global market, worthy of its mission "Preserving heritage, building national energy."

This mission becomes even more urgent when placed in the context of the country's overall development. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that energy always plays a particularly important role in the development of every nation, especially in the current context of industrialization and modernization. Sustainable development is impossible without energy. Petrovietnam has been entrusted with a very important mission, contributing to the realization of the country's development goals.

In response to those expectations, Petrovietnam has been proactively pioneering the greening of energy sources by promoting development in the fields of LNG, offshore wind power, nuclear power, green hydrogen, green ammonia, carbon capture/sustainable fuels (CCS/CCUS), sustainable aviation fuels, E10 bioethanol, etc. The combination of traditional experience and modern technology not only meets the ever-increasing energy demands of the economy but also ensures sustainable development in line with global energy trends.

It can be said that throughout its development journey, national energy security has always been the most important responsibility entrusted to Petrovietnam by the Party and the State. By proactively adapting and prioritizing sustainability, the Group continues to maintain its core role, ensuring the smooth flow of energy to fuel the nation's aspiration for prosperity.

Under the leadership of the Party and the State, Petrovietnam has spent 50 years accompanying the country, acting as a driving force for the socio-economic development of the nation by fulfilling its mission of ensuring "5 Securitys": energy security, economic security, food security, national defense security and national sovereignty at sea, while also contributing to ensuring social welfare.

By fulfilling its "5 An" mission, Petrovietnam has affirmed its prestige and position as a leading economic group in the country with its "5 Best" achievements:

The largest enterprise, with consolidated total assets exceeding 1 trillion VND and equity capital of over 556 trillion VND;

As the unit with the highest budget contribution, averaging 160 trillion VND/year in recent years, accounting for 80.3% of the total budget contributions of 18 corporations and general companies in the state-owned enterprise sector;

It has the highest profit, reaching 316 trillion VND during the 2020-2025 period, equivalent to an average of 2.2 billion USD per year;

As the only enterprise to have won and received numerous prestigious awards in science and technology, including 6 Ho Chi Minh Awards and 4 State Awards, along with dozens of reputable domestic and international inventions.

In particular, the company is a leading enterprise achieving the highest level in social welfare activities. By 2025, the value of social welfare activities implemented will exceed 1,300 billion VND.
