Bruno has made history. |
Manchester United concluded their final home game of the season with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, and the spotlight at Old Trafford once again fell on Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese midfielder didn't score, but he still made a huge impact with a performance that showcased his leadership qualities.
Bruno's assist for Bryan Mbeumo's goal in the 76th minute helped him reach 20 assists in the Premier League this season, equaling the record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
“I’ve talked about this before, everyone knows how important it is,” Bruno told Sky Sports after the game. “My teammates always try to make the most of my passes. I’m happy with the assist, with the win and with how we finished our last home game.”
With just one more assist, he will take sole possession of the top spot in the assist record, with MU still having their final game against Brighton.
However, his 20th assist doesn't fully reflect Bruno's impact in the match against Nottingham Forest.
According to statistics, the Manchester United captain created 8 key passes and 2 clear-cut chances for his teammates. He completely dominated the midfield with his ability to orchestrate play and deliver passes that unlocked the opponent's defense.
On numerous occasions, Bruno's teammates have left him disappointed by missing opportunities. Mbeumo himself once squandered a one-on-one chance before he could score in the second half.
Nevertheless, Bruno remained calm and continued to keep MU's entire attacking system functioning.
Despite Manchester United experiencing a turbulent season, Bruno Fernandes has maintained a very high level of performance. He was recently voted Player of the Season by the Football Writers' Association (FWA) and is also a nominee for the Premier League Player of the Season award.
