The only goal of the final was scored in the 32nd minute by Anisio Cabral, a young striker from Benfica. Cabral got on the end of a cross and easily slotted the ball into an empty net. This was Cabral's 7th goal of the tournament, just one behind top scorer Johannes Moser of Austria, who also received the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament.
