France is moving closer to direct clash with Russia

According to Ms. Zakharova, France is increasingly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, making the possibility of a direct conflict with Russia closer and closer; this causes many unpredictable consequences.

France is getting deeper and deeper into the armed conflict in Ukraine, constantly shifting any ideas of support towards undermining the situation and, of course, this is bringing the possibility of a direct conflict with Russia closer. These have unpredictable consequences for security not only in Europe but also in the world ,” Zakharova said.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that if President Macron sent French troops to Ukraine, they would be considered legitimate targets by the Russian military.

The French president sparked controversy in February 2024 when he said he did not rule out deploying ground troops in Ukraine in the future. The French leader warned that if Russia won in Ukraine, Europe’s prestige would be destroyed.

NATO's intervention on the ground in Ukraine would be extremely dangerous and Moscow is monitoring discussions on this issue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

US-Ukraine security deal unlikely to be binding in the future

The security agreement between the US and Ukraine is not expected to be binding on future US presidents, CNN reported, citing sources.

This promise is expected to be an ‘executive agreement,’” making it less formal than a treaty and not necessarily binding on future presidents , the source pointed out.

Recently, a senior US administration official confirmed that President Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky will sign a 10-year bilateral security agreement when they meet in Italy on the occasion of the G7 summit.

The US-Ukraine deal will include strong commitments from Washington to train Kiev’s troops and increase cooperation in weapons production. The US also promised to provide more military assistance and intelligence sharing to Ukraine.

The US-Ukraine security agreement does not explicitly provide for military funding for Ukraine, CNN reported, citing two other Washington officials. The document includes an appendix outlining how the US administration plans to work with the US Congress to fulfill its security commitments.

Earlier, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Washington and Kiev signed a new security agreement "to clarify the US commitment to long-term support for Ukraine, especially in the fields of defense and security".

Mr Sullivan added that 15 countries have signed separate security agreements with Ukraine, aimed at strengthening Kiev's "defensive deterrence". However, none of these documents contain provisions for the West to join Ukraine in its mutual defense.
