Launching the construction of smoke-free tourist destinations

QTO - On November 12, the Quang Tri Center for Disease Control held a launching ceremony for the construction of a smoke-free tourist destination by 2025 in Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province.

According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced. Every year, there are about 8 million deaths worldwide due to tobacco-related diseases, of which 1.3 million deaths are due to passive smoking. In Vietnam, there are more than 15 million smokers, with an estimated more than 100,000 deaths each year.

In Quang Binh , in recent years, tobacco harm prevention work has been focused on by all levels, sectors, organizations, and local authorities with many specific and practical activities.

Dong Hoi is one of the central wards of Quang Tri province, concentrating many tourist attractions, restaurants, hotels and annually attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and relax. Building a model of a smoke-free tourist environment is a meaningful activity, with the common goal of building Dong Hoi ward into a completely smoke-free tourist destination, thereby contributing to building a healthy living space, clean environment, creating a good impression for tourists when visiting and experiencing.
