The "Year of the Horse" stamp set includes two stamps and one stamp block, as a wish for "success and prosperity" sent to the people during the Lunar New Year.
In Eastern culture, the horse is a sacred animal symbolizing loyalty, strength, endurance, and good fortune. The stamp set is presented in a contemporary folk style, featuring the prominent image of the "Nine-Maned Horse," a pair of horses—one white and one crimson—carrying a drum ensemble to welcome spring, representing the harmony of yin and yang.
The first stamp design depicts a white horse with a long, flowing mane, slender legs, and a proud, high neck, carrying a set of small drums, symbolizing the feminine principle (yin). The second stamp design shows a chestnut horse with a strong physique, short mane, broad chest, and sturdy legs, carrying a large drum, representing the masculine principle (yang).
When combined, the two stamp designs create a balance of yin and yang, conveying a message of a new journey filled with promise, breakthroughs, and success. The image of the two horses bowing to each other also evokes humility and affection, creating a warm, loving family atmosphere.
The "Year of the Horse" stamp set is the 7th Tet stamp set designed by artist Nguyen Quang Vinh. According to the author, each Tet stamp set is not only a work of art but also a dialogue with cultural heritage, recreating and renewing traditional values through contemporary visual language.
The stamp block in this issue depicts a herd of eight horses galloping, highlighted by the image of a "Thousand-Mile Horse" with phoenix wings. The image of one horse turning back to encourage the last horse in the herd conveys a message of encouragement and companionship to achieve "success." At the center of the stamp block is a "Thousand-Mile Horse" flying above the clouds, symbolizing the aspiration for advancement, progress, and victory in the new year.
