Paleontologists have identified more than 20 dinosaur and other vertebrate footprints on a cliff in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
This discovery is expected to shed light on the early evolution of dinosaurs about 200 million years ago.
These traces were discovered by a climber in Dujiangyan city last November, and were later confirmed by a research team led by Mr. Xing Lida, Associate Professor at the China University of Geosciences (Beijing).
This is the first time dinosaur footprints have been reported in Dujiangyan.
The tracks include footprints of various sizes from two-legged carnivorous dinosaurs, as well as footprints that resemble human hands and are believed to belong to primitive reptiles, said Mr. Xing Lida.
What makes this site particularly valuable is that there are at least four layers of preserved footprints, suggesting that dinosaurs lived here for a long time.
In addition, researchers also found fossilized wood near the footprints, providing more information about the local ecosystem more than 200 million years ago.
This newly identified material could help scientists better understand the early evolutionary history of dinosaurs in China./.
