Over the years, the Women's Union at all levels in Can Tho City has always actively oriented and encouraged its members and women to participate in collective economic models; build cooperatives (HTX) and cooperative groups (THT) suitable to the characteristics of each locality. Thereby, creating a "launching pad" to help women get rich, increase their income, and actively contribute to the city's socio-economic development.
Truong Khuong A Fruit Garden Cooperative, Truong Long Commune, is supported by the Women's Union at all levels of Phong Dien District to produce and cultivate according to VietGAP and GLOBALGAP processes, associated with connecting to promote and consume agricultural products.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thuy Hang, Vice President of the Women's Union of Can Tho City, the Women's Union at all levels in the city has developed specific plans and implemented many activities to support collective economic models implemented by women, such as supporting loans; training, transferring science and technology; organizing women's start-up days; providing legal support for establishing cooperatives, cooperative groups, etc. In particular, priority is given to supporting disadvantaged women to become owners, promoting the advantages and potential of women in production and business.
To date, the city has 8 cooperatives owned by women or with women on the board of directors; 136 cooperatives with 2,037 members, with an average income of 3-6 million VND/person/month. At the same time, the Union at all levels has coordinated to support 13 women's start-up products that meet OCOP standards; supported 1 point of sale to introduce women's start-up products; supported 209 women with business start-up ideas and successful start-ups.
In Truong Lac Ward, O Mon District, promoting the existing strengths of the locality, since March 2022, the Women's Union of the ward has established the Truong Lac Traditional Cake Cooperative. The cooperative specializes in producing familiar traditional cakes: banh tet, sponge cake, banh kep, banh it... which are loved by many customers. Ms. Dang Thi Tham Thap, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the ward, said: "In addition to maintaining daily cake sales activities, members of the cooperative also actively promote and introduce products through events and festivals, such as: Southern Traditional Cake Festival, Cai Rang Floating Market Tourism Festival, Spring Colors of the Garden... Many women effectively use social networks Facebook and Zalo to introduce traditional cakes to customers near and far". Since its establishment, the cooperative's activities have become increasingly organized, with the average income of each member being about 4 million VND/month.
According to Ms. Dong Ngoc Huong, Vice President of the Women's Union of Thot Not District, through support activities, up to now, the whole district has 28 economic development models, 14 linkage groups, and cooperatives operating effectively. Typical examples are the linkage group for rice paper production, Trung Nhut Agricultural Cooperative, Tan Loc Fruit Cooperative, women's production group associated with community tourism... Many start-up products of women in the district have achieved OCOP from 3-5 stars, such as: tra fish sauce, linh fish sauce, fermented guava juice, plum wine, coconut rice paper, sweet rice paper...
The Women's Union at all levels in Phong Dien district has also mobilized the establishment of 4 cooperatives, 3 cooperative groups, 4 association groups, and 16 economic models with 677 members participating. Accompanying women with the will to progress, the Women's Union at all levels in the district proactively coordinated with other levels and sectors to organize many activities to support and promote the development of the collective economy. At the same time, the Union at all levels proactively organized dialogue programs between members of cooperative groups and cooperatives with local Party committees and authorities to promptly grasp the situation, needs, and aspirations of members and women in economic development.
In more than half of the implementation of the Project “Supporting Women to Start a Business in the 2017-2025 period”, the Women’s Union at all levels of Can Tho City has been quite successful. However, in the long term, how to expand the scale and improve the quality of operations of collective economic models is still a difficult problem.
According to the Women's Union of Can Tho City, all levels of the Union need to continue to strengthen propaganda work to raise women's awareness of the importance of the collective economy; consolidate and develop cooperatives and cooperatives that are operating effectively, while promoting support for weak operating models. At the same time, improve the quality of direction and management of the Union at all levels; organize regular meetings at cooperative and cooperative models to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of members... Thereby, contributing to promoting internal strength, spirit of cooperation, creative entrepreneurship of members and women; helping women have jobs and stabilize their lives.
