Lao Cai The phenomenon of "Buddha's light" appearing before the Buddha's birthday on Fansipan peak delighted those who saw it.
The "Buddha light" phenomenon appeared on the top of Fansipan on the afternoon of June 1, lasting about 9 minutes. The time of appearance was also close to Buddha's birthday (June 3), causing a tourist area employee to comment that it was like a "miracle".
Thuy Ngan, a tourist from Hanoi , said the fog covering the area made the scene look "even more hazy".

Folklore believes that "Buddha's light" is a form of "manifestation" of Buddha, considered a good omen. However, from a scientific perspective, "Buddha's light" is just an optical phenomenon.
According to Scott's Astronomy Page , an astronomy research website founded in 1998, "Buddha's light" creates an effect similar to "the halo of a god" and is often confused with a rainbow. However, a rainbow is much larger in diameter. This phenomenon is often observed from high places such as mountains or on airplanes. It appears when sunlight or (less often) moonlight comes into contact with small water droplets in clouds or fog.
The "Buddha's light" phenomenon has occurred on Fansipan peak, mainly during the cloudy season, from October to April. The phenomenon appears 1-2 times in a short period of time, usually when there is ice. In October 2022, "Buddha's light" appeared right in the palm of the Great Buddha statue on Fansipan peak.
In 2021, "Buddha's light" was also recorded on Ngu Chi Son mountain, the natural boundary area between Lao Cai and Lai Chau.
