On November 14, in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE) organized the 7th International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST-7) in 2025 with the theme: “Resources, Environment and Agriculture in the Digital Age and Sustainable Development”. ICST-7 is expected to be a large-scale innovation forum, where 500 scientists, experts and businesses from home and abroad gather to connect knowledge and propose breakthrough solutions for sustainable development in the digital age.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Quyen - Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE), Head of the Organizing Committee of ICST-7 in 2025 said: Sustainable development cannot be separated from digital technology. ICST-7 is not only a place for academic exchange, but also an international roundtable to shape and create highly applicable scientific and technological solutions, contributing to solving global challenges of climate change, food security and efficient resource use.

In his welcome speech for ICST-7, Dr. Truong Minh Huy Vu - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies said: We are living in a period where every development decision must be associated with two urgent keywords: "Digital transformation and Green development". For a special city like Ho Chi Minh City, which is an economic locomotive, it always faces great pressure on infrastructure, environment and population. The topic of ICST-7 is not only academic, but also a compass for action for the development of the City.

“Currently, Ho Chi Minh City needs multi-dimensional cooperation in “Digital Transformation and Green Development”. Accordingly, scientists need to bring research projects out of the laboratory and into life, turn solutions into specific projects for the City. HCMUNRE needs to continue to be a bridge of knowledge, a center for training high-quality human resources and a reliable scientific consulting partner of the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee”, Dr. Truong Minh Huy Vu shared.

The conference took place at HCMUNRE, including: Plenary session with world-leading speakers. This plenary session is also a gathering place for prestigious experts, directly sharing the hottest research and technology trends. In which, Dr. Nghiem Van Son - Member of the American Geophysical Union - Lifetime Member of AGU (USA) presented an Overview of research on changes in the land and marine environment in the Asia region, providing basic scientific data on climate change.

At the same time, Dr. Basker Murugappan - Director of Energy Transition (Mineral Resources and Energy Department of New Mexico, USA) also shared about the Sustainable Energy Transition Trend and evaluated typical projects in 2025, bringing international practical lessons. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tham Hoang - Senior Research Scientist (Auburn University, Alabama, USA) shared about the issue of pollution and microplastic management, towards sustainable development, a global environmental challenge.

Along with that, 8 specialized sub-committees have also focused on the "hottest" and most modern fields, including: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Transformation of Resources and Environment; Land Management and Smart Agriculture; Circular Economy and Renewable Energy; Geospatial Science; Climate Change Adaptation. Including Digital Transformation in Resource Management and Environmental Monitoring; IoT Application to Enhance Environmental Behavior, towards Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta.

In addition to the academic program, HCMUNRE also organizes the Science - Technology Exhibition and the 2025 Job Fair. This is an ideal space for businesses to seek technology, scientists to seek application partners and students to seek pioneering career opportunities. ICST-7 is a "golden" opportunity for the media and the public to access advanced scientific research, better understand the role of digital technology in environmental protection and promote sustainable economic development.
