Lam Thuy Nursery, Chieng Kim village, Yen Chau commune applies technology to produce vegetable seedlings in greenhouses.

In Chieng Phu village, people have effectively exploited the advantage of fertile land, maintaining the cultivation of 4 vegetable crops per year. Of which, winter crop is considered the main crop. Mr. Ta Van Thuong, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Chieng Phu village, informed: According to the plan, the village planted about 30 hectares of winter crops. This year, the weather was favorable, people proactively provided irrigation water, and there were two early cold spells, so the crops grew well. Up to now, people in the village have planted 100% of the planned area. Some types of vegetables such as green beans and squash have good prices, averaging 20,000 VND/kg, and everyone is excited.

Coming to Chieng Kim village, impressed by the green vegetable fields stretching far and wide, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Chieng Kim village, shared: My family has more than 5,000 m² of land for growing vegetables. Since the end of September, my family has started planting seeds, and invested more than 10 million VND to install a drip irrigation system, covering the plants with plastic film to keep them moist. This year, I mainly grow cabbage, climbing beans, onions, garlic, cauliflower and tomatoes. Every day, my family goes to the fields to check for pests and ensure irrigation water for the plants to grow well. If the weather is favorable, it is estimated that this winter crop will yield about 30-40 tons of vegetables, after deducting expenses, the profit will be about 100 million VND.

At Lam Thuy Nursery in Chieng Kim village, workers are urgently making growing media, using modern machinery to sow seeds, and grow seedlings for winter crop production. Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, the nursery owner, informed: The nursery has a total area of over 6,000 m², invested in a greenhouse system, automatic irrigation, seed placing machine... We specialize in producing vegetable seedlings, especially cabbage, eggplant, kale, baby cauliflower, squash... serving the Mai Son, Moc Chau and neighboring markets. Each production batch, the nursery exports about 700,000-800,000 seedlings to the market. Production in greenhouses helps reduce the impact of weather, limit pests and fungi, save labor and improve the quality of seedlings.

After the merger, Yen Chau commune was newly established on the basis of merging the communes: Chieng Dong, Chieng Sang, Chieng Pan, Sap Vat, Chieng Khoi and Yen Chau town. The natural area, population size and production area of the commune were therefore expanded, creating favorable conditions for organizing agricultural production in a concentrated direction, planning crop areas suitable for each sub-region. This is also an opportunity for Yen Chau to promote the land's strengths, expand the winter crop area, promote commodity production, and increase the value on the same cultivated area.

Mr. Truong The Anh, Head of the Economic Department of Yen Chau Commune, said: According to the plan, in the 2025 winter crop, Yen Chau Commune strives to plant 729 hectares of various crops, including corn, garlic and vegetables. We coordinate with specialized agencies to guide farmers on planting and care processes, measures to prevent and combat cold and use fertilizers appropriate to each growth stage of the crop. At the same time, we strengthen pest and disease forecasting, recommending that people regularly check their fields to detect and promptly handle pests. Up to now, the whole commune has planted 100% of the planned winter crop area.

Along with technical guidance, Yen Chau commune also focuses on investing, upgrading and putting into use irrigation works to ensure water sources for winter crop production; directing enterprises and agricultural cooperatives to supply a variety of seeds and agricultural materials to meet people's needs. The villages have based on natural conditions, soil and crop timeframe to proactively arrange a reasonable crop structure, prioritizing groups of plants with high economic value, short growing time and stable output... In addition, some villages and households have linked with enterprises in supplying seeds, consuming products, gradually forming a vegetable value chain, helping farmers feel secure in production, stabilizing output and increasing economic value on the same cultivated land area.

Lush green fields, neat vegetable gardens, and bustling nurseries are evidence of the clear transformation of Yen Chau land, where farmers are constantly striving to improve, develop production, and get rich on their homeland.
