Developing green tourism and cultural industry from natural resources and cultural identity

(LĐ online) - On December 18, the People's Committee of Da Lat City coordinated with Tuoi Tre Newspaper to organize an international conference "Da Lat develops green tourism and cultural industry from diverse natural resources and local culture".

In his opening speech, Mr. Dang Quang Tu - Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee emphasized: With beautiful natural landscape, rich ecosystem, high biodiversity, 135-year-old Da Lat has many historical and cultural works, unique architecture, gentle, elegant and hospitable behavior style, crystallizing the cultural beauty of many regions in the country converging here.

Da Lat is the only Flower Festival city in Vietnam, a famous domestic and international tourist center, in the process of building a smart city and heritage city. In 2024, Da Lat welcomed 7.9 million visitors, an increase of 21% compared to 2023, with international visitors reaching 540 thousand. Trade, tourism and services account for 69.12% of the city's economic structure.

Dalat has been recognized twice as an ASEAN Clean Tourist City, and is considered a particularly favorable space for preserving cultural values; a cradle for cultivating contemporary artistic creativity, and an attractive musical rendezvous.

Developing cultural industries helps restructure the growth model, create highly competitive cultural products and services, create more new jobs, and make positive contributions to the economy. Developing green tourism helps minimize environmental impacts, positively contribute to biodiversity protection, use renewable energy, promote natural and cultural heritage, and develop environmentally friendly products.

The workshop received the attention and discussions of 30 scientists, researchers, and managers in the fields of tourism, economics, culture, history, environment, and architecture from universities, research institutes, departments, branches, associations, businesses, and creative practitioners inside and outside the province, and more than 20 suggestions from people who love Da Lat.

At the workshop, 4 papers were presented, 2 comments were contributed, 5 speakers discussed green tourism, 4 speakers discussed cultural industry. All revolved around 4 major issues including: Solutions to develop green tourism; Current situation and solutions to develop cultural industry; What to do to develop diverse natural resources; What to do to promote indigenous cultural values and the issues raised.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Huong - UNESCO Office in Vietnam contributed many ideas on operating and developing the Creative City of Music.

The speakers and presentations shared a lot of knowledge and experience, gave many comprehensive opinions and ideas, provided a large amount of knowledge and exchanged information with all their love for Da Lat. With multidimensional perspectives, multidisciplinary approaches, documents and scientific arguments were discussed and analyzed openly, contributing to clarifying the role and value of natural resources, biodiversity, and local culture; proposing many initiatives, orientations, and solutions suitable to the characteristics of Da Lat.

The workshop delved into the exchange, discussion, and proposed practical solutions to promote local tourism development associated with the cultural industry, developing music products based on the strengths of the UNESCO Creative City of Music title. Thereby aiming at the following goals: Building Da Lat into a typical model of green growth; Sustainable development through the development of service tourism in harmony with the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity. Building Da Lat into a modern service tourism city, a smart urban area, a regional center of culture, arts, sports and entertainment. Continuously striving to implement the commitments of the UNESCO Creative City of Music roadmap to 2027, contributing to the strong development of the local cultural industry.

MSc. Vu Nhat Tan - Lecturer in Cultural Industry - Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, presented many good ideas for Da Lat.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Pham S - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: Delegates and speakers all highly appreciated the natural potential, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and green tourism development of Da Lat City; at the same time, they delved into issues of sharing, implementation methods, investment attraction, mechanisms and policies to develop cultural industries.

In the coming time, there are many opportunities for the development of Da Lat's green tourism and cultural industry. The province is determined to remove obstacles in policies and guidelines, especially in agricultural tourism. Lam Dong is a pioneer in developing agricultural tourism with 3 international-class tourist areas, but previously it was stuck in the Land Law and Construction Law, but has been resolved. Currently, green tourism is a global trend, in which Vietnam is developing towards.

The cultural industry increasingly needs a higher level of awareness for tourists, to develop and attract investment, while Da Lat possesses very good cultural potential. The application of the 4.0 industrial revolution, artificial intelligence supports the development of green tourism and cultural industry. In the near future, Lam Dong will start construction of highways, which will shorten the time for tourists to come to Da Lat.

Continuing to promote strengths and overcome limitations, in the coming time, Da Lat needs to have practical policies of Da Lat to promote the development of green tourism and cultural industry; focus on developing resources to attract both private and management staff to have enough conditions to provide services, coordinate and cooperate with public-private for development.

Applying scientific and technological achievements, especially artificial intelligence, to dataize information to provide tourists with tourism data, using virtual reality and digitalization in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. Strengthening international cooperation to position Da Lat higher, with higher requirements and in a higher position: building a model of clean tourism, green tourism; building Da Lat into a center for preserving and promoting cultural heritage to develop cultural industry, including architectural heritage and Da Lat people's style.

In which, the core value for developing green tourism and cultural industry of Da Lat is the natural potential, biodiversity and local culture. Build Da Lat city to become a typical model of UNESCO's Creative City of Music. Build Da Lat into a city of national and international events and festivals; along with the Flower Festival every two years, Da Lat can organize many events depending on the conditions, which can be organized monthly, quarterly such as music events, competitions, large-scale film events.
