On November 15th, the Interventional Cardiology Department ( An Giang General Hospital) marked a new milestone by successfully performing two left bundle branch conduction pacemaker implantations for elderly patients with complex arrhythmias. This is a modern technique requiring high precision, previously mainly implemented at large hospitals such as Cho Ray Hospital or the National Heart Institute of Vietnam. This success not only opens up opportunities for optimal treatment for patients right in the local area but also clearly demonstrates the specialized development direction that An Giang General Hospital is striving to pursue.
People's health is central to development.
According to cardiovascular experts, the left bundle branch conduction system is a more physiological pacing method, improving the heart's natural conduction, preventing dangerous fainting spells, and enhancing the quality of life for patients. The successful implementation of the first two cases marks a significant maturation of the hospital's interventional cardiology team. Even more encouraging is that people in An Giang and neighboring provinces now have more opportunities to access this modern technique without having to travel to Ho Chi Minh City, reducing the burden of costs and time, while increasing the chances of successful treatment in critical cases.

Dr. Nguyen Duy Tan, Director of An Giang General Hospital, shared: "As a specialized hospital of the province with a model of 1,200 actual beds, the hospital receives an average of over 2,000 patients per day. The increasing demand for medical examination and treatment forces us to proactively research and implement new techniques suitable to the local disease patterns, so that people can receive treatment right in their province while still ensuring professional effectiveness."
From the end of 2024 to the present, the hospital has continuously recorded many milestones in technical development, most notably the group of interventional techniques for treating primary liver cancer using TACE (transhepatic selective chemoembolization). This is the standard treatment method for patients with intermediate-stage liver cancer, helping to shrink tumors, improve survival time, and reduce symptoms.
The technical development orientation of An Giang General Hospital is part of the overall strategy of the entire provincial health sector. Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quang Hien, Director of the An Giang Department of Health, said that the sector is implementing a change in thinking towards putting people's health at the center, shifting from "treating diseases as the main focus" to "preventing diseases as the key".
This is a groundbreaking shift, linked to many concrete actions: strong investment in primary healthcare; increased capacity for disease forecasting and early detection; intensified community health interventions; research into appropriate financial mechanisms to ensure universal health security; organization of free periodic health check-ups for all citizens, with special priority given to vulnerable groups; and progress towards basic free hospital services for the people. In this context, An Giang General Hospital plays a core role in the system, both developing advanced techniques and providing professional support to lower-level facilities, ensuring the interconnectedness of the healthcare network.
Towards a modern hospital with high-quality personnel.
To meet the growing demand, An Giang General Hospital is accelerating its strategy for developing high-quality human resources. Regular training programs in specialized fields, clinical practice, and advanced techniques are organized, and young doctors are given opportunities to access new technologies and gain practical experience at leading medical centers.

The modern biochemical testing system at An Giang General Hospital has a capacity of 800 tests per hour.
Currently, the hospital continues to refine many advanced techniques, expand international cooperation, and apply technology in hospital management, aiming to build a smart, safe, modern hospital model that puts the patient at the center.
With the right direction, a well-structured investment strategy, and a spirit of continuous learning, An Giang General Hospital is gradually asserting its position and gaining the trust of the people in the province. The successful implementation of advanced techniques is clear evidence of the effort to "keep patients receiving treatment close to home," reducing the burden on higher-level hospitals and providing a better life for thousands of local people.
