The family of Mr. Dinh Xuan Bac in Yen Phong village is one of the exemplary beekeeping households in the area. Currently, he maintains 25 bee colonies, harvesting about 250 liters of honey annually, bringing in an income of about 50 million VND for his family. Mr. Bac shared: “Beekeeping doesn't require much land or investment capital, but it does require beekeepers to constantly monitor and care for the bee colonies. In years with favorable weather, the honey harvest is abundant, the honey is beautiful and fragrant, so many customers place orders.”
According to Mr. Bac, beekeeping in Tan Thanh commune also faces many difficulties. Unpredictable weather patterns and periods of scarcity of natural flowers have led to reduced honey production. In addition, some beekeeping households lack knowledge and techniques for caring for their beehives and preventing diseases, resulting in low economic efficiency. "I hope the local authorities will provide more technical training courses and support in finding markets for their products so that beekeepers can confidently develop their businesses in the long term," Mr. Bac expressed.
Sharing a passion for beekeeping, Mr. Cao Minh Hung in Ong Chinh village currently owns 30 bee colonies, harvesting over 270 liters of honey annually. With a selling price of approximately 200,000 VND per liter, beekeeping has contributed to his family's economic development.
According to Mr. Hung, the honey in Tan Thanh is mainly collected by worker bees from flowers in the natural forest, so the quality is very good. However, honey consumption is still mainly through retail and spontaneous sales, so the product's value does not match its quality. "Sometimes I harvest quite a lot of honey, but the market is not stable; I mainly sell to regular customers or post it on social media for retail. If all households could participate in the commune's beekeeping cooperative or have a common brand for Tan Thanh honey, beekeeping would develop more strongly," Mr. Hung said.
Beekeeping for honey production in Tan Thanh commune is opening up an economic development direction suitable to the local natural conditions, contributing to increasing the income of many people in the mountainous region.
According to Dinh Hai Ly, Vice Chairman of the Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee: "Beekeeping in the area has achieved many positive results, but it is still small-scale, spontaneous, and scattered. Some households have not focused on investing in beekeeping techniques, so the yield and quality of honey are not consistent. In the coming time, the commune will coordinate with specialized departments to organize more technical training courses, encourage people to cooperate in production, and build the Tan Thanh honey brand to enhance the value of the product."
Currently, Tan Thanh commune has also established a beekeeping cooperative. In the long term, the commune will support the development of labels and brands for honey products; establish product distribution agreements for farmers; plan areas for people to develop beekeeping in a commercial, concentrated manner; and open honey processing facilities in the area so that people can produce with peace of mind…
