Reporting to Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Standing Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, said: The province has responded to storm No. 13 with the spirit of not being passive or surprised. The province has taken a very proactive, creative and more drastic approach. The province has deployed response work, banned the sea, checked the population, and lowered the water level of the reservoir right from when the storm was starting to form in the East of the Philippines. With the motto of "prevention is key", "prevention from early on, from afar", Gia Lai has built a response plan one level higher than the forecast, which is thoroughly implemented from the province to the commune.

“One of the most notable points of Gia Lai is the decision to organize a “massive evacuation” of more than 93,000 households and 341,000 people. The evacuation was carried out thoroughly and compulsorily, not leaving people in dangerous areas; the highest goal is to protect people’s lives.

Along with that, Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee also decided to immediately establish a forward command post and 13 special working groups, led by provincial leaders who directly went down to the communes to inspect and urge; directly resolve and decide on urgent issues arising on the spot; the management of storm prevention and control No. 13 was extremely close and highly disciplined," said Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung highly appreciated the province's proactive response to the storm, especially the good implementation of the "4 on-site" motto and proactive evacuation of people from dangerous areas. This contributed to minimizing the damage caused by storm No. 13.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung requested Gia Lai province to concentrate all its forces and means to quickly overcome the consequences of the storm. In the immediate future, priority will be given to ensuring social security and taking good care of families that suffered heavy losses due to the storm, such as the two cases of families with deceased members, and cases of collapsed houses and houses with blown-off roofs that have no place to live.

At the same time, proactively overcome infrastructure damage, especially quickly repairing the power grid system to supply electricity and water to people; prioritize repairs at medical facilities and schools so that units can return to normal operations.

“The ultimate goal is to stabilize people’s lives soon. At the same time, the province needs to quickly start restoring production and business to complete the growth targets set by the Government. The Prime Minister has also agreed to request localities to compile all damages caused by natural disasters, storms and floods to have timely support solutions,” Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung emphasized.

Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Thai Dai Ngoc thanked the Government for its attention to Gia Lai province in the face of the damage caused by storm No. 13 to the locality.

Secretary Thai Dai Ngoc affirmed that Gia Lai province considers helping people overcome the consequences of storm No. 13 as an urgent and top priority task. The province has been speeding up the mobilization of forces to support people in rebuilding their houses, restoring production, and soon bringing life back to normal. In the long term, the province will proactively re-plan residential areas, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property in the face of natural disasters.

“The province has made a plan. Families whose houses were damaged by storm No. 13 and do not have a place to stay will be moved to military units. They will only return when their houses are repaired,” said Mr. Thai Dai Ngoc.

At the meeting, representatives of banks donated 9 billion VND to support Gia Lai province to overcome the consequences of storm No. 13. Of which, Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (VietcomBank) supported 5 billion VND, Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) supported 3 billion VND and Vietnam Bank for Social Policies Gia Lai Branch supported 1 billion VND.
