At noon on May 22, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Senior Lieutenant Pham Trung Tien, Deputy Chief of Police of Pho Hoa Ward, said that while going to Hai Tan beach (Pho Quang Ward) with his family, he heard a cry for help at sea, he and some people promptly rescued a man who was swept away by the waves.
Lieutenant Tien said that at around 5:30 p.m. on May 21, when he arrived at the beach, he heard a cry for help and saw the victim being swept away by the waves about 50 meters from shore. Immediately, he rushed to find a life jacket and rushed out to sea with four other people to rescue the drowning victim.
Senior Lieutenant Pham Trung Tien, Deputy Chief of Pho Hoa Ward Police, and local people brought the drowning victim to shore.
After bringing the victim to shore and performing first aid, everyone transferred the victim to Dang Thuy Tram Regional General Hospital (Duc Pho Town) for further emergency care.
"Currently, the victim's health has passed the critical stage and is gradually recovering. Doctors at Dang Thuy Tram Regional General Hospital are continuing to care for and monitor the victim," added Senior Lieutenant Tien.
The drowning victim was Mr. Q. (65 years old, in Pho Ninh Ward, Duc Pho Town). While swimming in the sea, unfortunately, Mr. Q. was swept away by the waves and could not swim to shore.
Regarding the above issue, Colonel Dao Quang Minh, Chief of Duc Pho Town Police, said that the leadership of Duc Pho Town Police had received information from the base that Senior Lieutenant Pham Trung Tien, Deputy Chief of Pho Hoa Ward Police, had rescued a person who drowned while swimming in the sea.
"The unit will propose that Quang Ngai Provincial Police promote Senior Lieutenant Tien as an example in the Good People, Good Deeds program," said Mr. Minh.
