Accordingly, at 11:18 a.m. on July 13 (Paris time), Professor Nikolay Nenov, Chairman of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, officially recognized Hin Nam No National Park in Khammouane Province, Laos as a world natural heritage. It is known that the UNESCO World Heritage Committee recognized Hin Nam No National Park, Khammouane Province (Laos), as an extension of the world natural heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Tri Province.
Thus, Hin Nam No National Park, Khammouane Province (Laos) and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Tri Province are the first trans-border world natural heritages in Southeast Asia.

In recent times, in addition to the coordination between ministries and branches of Vietnam and Laos, in the process of building a dossier to request UNESCO to recognize Hin Nam No National Park as a world natural heritage, the leaders of Quang Binh province (formerly), now Quang Tri province, have directed the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board to actively pay attention, coordinate, and support the Hin Nam No National Park Management Board in terms of techniques to build and complete the nomination dossier.

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park are among the largest intact tropical wet karst systems in the world. The exceptionally diverse topography of the karst landscape is formed by complex interbeds of limestone karst and shale, sandstone and granite. The karst formations have been developing since the Paleozoic period some 400 million years ago and can be considered the oldest, largest-scale karst area and are not found anywhere else in the world.

Hin Nam No National Park shares the Truong Son mountain range with Vietnam in the West, bordering Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, with a total area of over 82,000 hectares. It is home to 40 species of mammals, over 200 species of birds, 25 species of bats, 46 species of amphibians and reptiles, over 100 species of fish, over 520 species of plants... Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has an area of up to 1,233.26 km².
Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park was established to protect one of the two largest karst areas in the world with about 300 caves and preserve the northern Truong Son ecosystem in the North Central region. The park is characterized by limestone formations, underground rivers and rare flora and fauna listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book.

Hin Nam No National Park and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park have many similarities in all aspects, so they have great potential for cave, adventure, ecological, and indigenous community tourism. In terms of tourism, these two national parks have attractions for foreign visitors in cave exploration, geological and geomorphological research and biodiversity... as well as establishing cross-border tours.
