Blue Skies Space, a space science data company based in London (UK), said that this microwave-sized satellite was launched by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket in California (USA) on the evening of November 28 (local time).
Mauve is equipped with a specialized microscope designed to study energy flares from stars and exoplanets – phenomena that were previously nearly impossible to fully observe with telescopes on Earth.
Blue Skies Space said the scientific data collected by Mauve will be made available to universities and research institutes that subscribe to the company's service, including Boston University and Columbia University.
Professor Giovanna Tinetti, senior scientist at Blue Skies Space, said: “Mauve will open a whole new window into the activity of stars, which until now have been largely hidden in the dark. Traditional telescopes on Earth cannot collect this type of data, so a satellite like Mauve is extremely important to expand our understanding.”
