According to box office figures updated on the afternoon of May 22nd, the film "Phi Phong: Blood Demon of the Sacred Forest" has grossed nearly 200 billion VND and is predicted to quickly surpass this milestone later that evening. This achievement makes "Phi Phong" one of the few Vietnamese films to join the "200 billion VND club," while also establishing the position of the horror film genre in the domestic market.
Released in theaters at the end of April, director Do Quoc Trung's film has attracted attention for its exploration of folk legends and the spiritual atmosphere of the highlands.
The film revolves around a forest curse and mysterious phenomena occurring in a remote village, combining horror elements with local cultural influences. Kieu Minh Tuan plays the lead role, alongside a cast of young actors.

From its opening week, the film consistently topped the Vietnamese box office. During the April 30th - May 1st holiday, "Phi Phong" almost completely dominated its foreign competitors in terms of ticket sales and screenings. The film then continued to maintain its steady appeal for many weeks, even as the market saw the emergence of many international blockbusters.
Before reaching the 200 billion VND mark, the film also set a record as the fastest Vietnamese horror film to reach 100 billion VND in history. The commercial success of "Phi Phong" is attributed to word-of-mouth on social media, especially among young audiences who enjoy horror films with folk elements.

Many believe the film has contributed to revealing a shift in Vietnamese audience tastes. While previously domestic horror films were often considered a niche genre, struggling to compete with foreign blockbusters, in recent years, many projects exploring local folklore and legends have consistently achieved great success at the box office.
The fact that "Phi Phong" has reached the 200 billion VND mark not only signifies another revenue milestone for Vietnamese cinema, but also demonstrates the growing commercial potential of domestic horror films.
