Parents monitored after "strange smelling" food incident at Lam Dong school

(Dan Tri) - After a period of temporary suspension, Trung Vuong Primary School in Lam Dong has reorganized its boarding kitchen for students. Local leaders confirmed that parents are allowed to supervise meals.

On November 14, Trung Vuong Primary School, Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, Lam Dong reopened its boarding kitchen for students after nearly 2 months of suspension.

According to the school leaders, the school contracts with a professional supplier to provide meals for students, ensuring quality. Each meal costs 30,000 VND, of which main dishes cost 22,000 VND, milk 6,000 VND, and fruit or dessert 2,000 VND.

The school's canteen reopened, serving lunch to 630 students.

On the same day, speaking with Dan Tri reporter about the issue of parents requesting to supervise the boarding meals in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Mau Ha, Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, confirmed that the locality is coordinating with the school to carry out the procedures and will let parents supervise.

According to the leader of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, the temporary suspension period for Ms. Nguyen Thai Quynh Nga, Principal of Trung Vuong Primary School, has ended; however, Ms. Nga is on leave so the work at the school has been assigned to someone else by the authorities. It is expected that the authorities will review the signs of violations of the individuals involved and decide on a form of handling next week.

Previously, as Dan Tri reported, around the end of September, on the social network Facebook, an account named "Nguyen Thanh" posted information about a unit repeatedly providing food of poor quality to Trung Vuong Primary School.

Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, the supplier delivered to the school 10kg of smelly pork bones that showed signs of turning green; 35kg of frozen beef balls that smelled, without packaging or labels; 60kg of pork that, after boiling, had a dark green color and a strange smell; 50kg of wet, smelly pre-sliced ​​beef...

The incident caused public outrage, dozens of parents whose children are studying at Trung Vuong Primary School went to the school to ask the principal for information about the incident.

On September 17, the Department of Education and Training of Lam Dong province and the People's Committee of Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat requested the leaders of Trung Vuong Primary School to report the incident.

On September 20, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, signed a document requesting competent authorities to strengthen food safety control at educational establishments in the area. At the same time, he requested competent authorities to conduct surprise inspections of food safety in school kitchens and strictly handle violations.

Ms. Nguyen Thai Quynh Nga, Principal of Trung Vuong Primary School, was later temporarily suspended from work by authorities for not performing her assigned duties and responsibilities.
