Phuoc Son District ( Quang Nam Province) has 54 Prestigious People, including 14 village elders, 5 village chiefs, 3 retired cadres and 32 other members. They are one of the pioneering forces in developing household economy, a bridge to propagate the policies of the Party and State to the local community. With their role, the Prestigious People force has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development, ensuring security, order and social safety in the locality.
Over the years, prestigious people in Phuoc Son have actively responded to the policies of the Party and the State. They are bold in changing their thinking and doing to develop the family economy . Talking about economic development, it is impossible not to mention prestigious person Ho Van Lam (Gie-Trieng ethnic group, 44 years old, in village 2, Phuoc My commune).
From a poor family struggling with the economy, Mr. Lam boldly borrowed capital to do business, cleared fields, and produced. Up to now, his family earns hundreds of millions each year. Thanks to that, his children can fully study, and the family turns a new page.
Mr. Lam shared: Only by doing good business can we escape poverty and hardship. With that thought, he and his wife boldly reclaimed land to grow acacia and doi. With the current acacia area of more than 7 hectares, each harvest, he and his wife "pocket" from 500-600 million VND. Not stopping there, he invested in raising cows, initially from 2 cows, after a period of good care, he and his wife now have a herd of about 30 cows. Besides growing acacia and raising cows, his family also expanded the area of purple rice cultivation, which is currently generating good income.
“It takes a long time to earn income from one type of crop, so my husband and I try to intercrop many types of crops and livestock. Growing acacia, raising cows and chickens are the main “dishes”. Besides, my husband and I are planning to expand the area of planting dổi, in the near future continue to clear grass and bushes, to plant some more fruit trees. Only when our economy is stable, will we be able to spread the word to others, and from there, the propaganda will be effective”, Mr. Lam added.
To prove his words, Mr. Lam used his motorbike to take us around his family's nearly ten-hectare farmland. On the farmland, he planted many areas of acacia trees, the acacia trees were more than 2 years old and green. Along with that, the herd of cows were let loose along the farmland, which was carefully tended by him and his wife. The long rows of do trees stretched along the forest, full of fruit, promising to bring in additional income for the family. Meeting Mr. Lam's wife who was clearing bushes nearby, she said, farming and raising cows is really hard, but as long as they can do something to earn income, the couple does not mind the hardship.
In Phuoc Son, prestigious people who do well in the economy like Mr. Lam are not rare. For example, Mr. Ho Van Chuong, residing in Phuoc My commune, is also a typical example of economic development, and actively propagandizes and mobilizes people to strive to do business and escape poverty.
Mr. Chuong said that, promoting the role of a prestigious person in the locality, in recent years, his family has continuously improved production, enriched the family, and supported local people to escape poverty. Currently, his family grows about 5 hectares of acacia and has a herd of 10 cows. With a stable income of hundreds of millions of VND each year, his family is continuing to expand the acacia growing area and raise more chickens.
Not only is he good at business, Mr. Ho Van Chuong is also the core in propagating to people to develop production, propagating to the community about preventing child marriage, and staying away from backward customs. According to Mr. Chuong, in the past, people relied on subsidies and did not focus on doing business to improve their family economy. He and the authorities in the village regularly propagandize and mobilize people to boldly borrow capital to do business. Not only that, with the people's recommendations on support for seedlings and livestock, he always received and reported to his superiors in meetings, thanks to which, the people's proposals quickly reached all levels.
In previous years, the situation of child marriage and incestuous marriage in Phuoc Son was still high. Mr. Chuong and some prestigious people in the locality were also the bridge between the government and the people to propagate the consequences as well as ways to prevent them.
“In the past, young children would just like each other and get married. But getting married is very difficult, not knowing where to rely on, while the parents also suffer. Early marriage also makes children lose their opportunities to study and work in the future, so I stand up to propagate to help them understand and stay away,” said Mr. Chuong.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bang, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Phuoc Son District, said: The local prestigious people force, including many different ethnic groups and different living areas, but in the past time, they have shown their role very well. They are the nucleus in the development of the community, contributing to the prosperity of the locality. This force not only propagates policies to the community, but is also the pioneer in developing the family economy, contributing to the overall development of the locality.
"They actively encourage and guide their children and grandchildren, and mobilize people in villages and residential groups to participate in economic development; work hard to research, innovate, learn good practices, and eliminate backward farming practices," Mr. Bang added.
