How is Podolski now?

Despite turning 40, striker Lukas Podolski has no intention of retiring.

Podolski joined Gornik Zabrze (Poland) in 2021 and is now a living symbol of this team. Although his contract only expires in June 2026, many believe that the current season will be the final chapter in the illustrious career of the 2014 World Cup champion.

However, Podolski recently surprised fans when he announced that he did not want to retire. "Basically, this is considered my last season. But if the team does something special, I might want to participate one more time," said the former Bayern Munich star.

Gornik Zabrze are currently leading the Polish Premier League table after 15 rounds. Despite only playing 8 matches this season, Podolski still plays the role of a spiritual leader, an inspiration to the young players.

He admitted: “I still love football and I am happy to be able to help young players with my experience. Of course, at the age of 40, my body is not the same as before, sometimes I feel some aches and pains."

Before returning to Poland to play, Podolski played for many big teams such as Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Inter Milan and Galatasaray. In the peak season of his career (2011/12), Podolski scored 18 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances for FC Koln.

In the international arena, Podolski is one of the greatest strikers in German history with 130 appearances and 49 goals - culminating in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
