Brentford continues to demonstrate its ambition to rejuvenate its squad by signing center-back Jannik Schuster from Red Bull Salzburg for a transfer fee of approximately €20 million. The 19-year-old Austrian talent signed a contract until June 2031, with an option to extend for a further year.
Schuster is considered one of the most promising young central defenders in Austrian football today. Last season, he played 29 matches for Salzburg in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and making 3 appearances in the Europa League, notably starting against Aston Villa.
Born in Hall in Tirol (Austria), Schuster began his career at SV Mieming before joining the Red Bull Salzburg academy in 2020. He quickly developed within the club's renowned youth system.
Schuster made his Salzburg first-team debut in May 2025 in a 4-2 victory against Rapid Wien. He subsequently became a regular starter for the Austrian club in the 2025/26 season.
At the youth level, Schuster captained Salzburg's U19 team to the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League and was included in Salzburg's squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He also represented Austria's youth national teams from U16 to U21.
With this long-term contract, Brentford continues to place its faith in its strategy of scouting and developing promising young talents in European football.
