Pu Luong repairs damaged roads to serve tourism

A landslide on the slope in Pu Luong commune.

According to the report of Pu Luong Commune People's Committee, after storm No. 10 occurred at the end of October 2025, landslides occurred in many locations on the road from the commune center to Don village - one of the important tourist routes. There were 3 landslides with a total length of about 120m, about more than 400m3 of soil and rock were eroded, directly affecting the travel of people and tourists. Also in Don and Kho Muong villages - where there are many homestays and community accommodation, many intra-village roads were also eroded, causing silting or washing away some sections of the fields, affecting the transportation of agricultural products, daily activities of people and the tourism experience of tourists.

Similarly, on many other routes, there are many small landslides, some of which are deeply gouged, creating difficulties for traffic. For example, the route from Lung Niem commune (old) to Thanh Son commune (old) recorded a negative slope crack of about 130m long, the positive slope collapsed more than 70m3 of rock and soil, narrowing the roadway and posing a potential safety risk.

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Pu Luong commune mobilized local forces to coordinate with the Department of Road Traffic to overcome the landslides. The complex negative slope landslides were fenced off by the local authorities, preventing people and vehicles from passing through and reported to the Provincial People's Committee for technical assessment and to develop a treatment plan.

Many homestay businesses in Don village highly appreciated the prompt intervention of the government in promptly handling the landslides. This helped the accommodation establishments proactively welcome guests without interruption of operations.

During the weekend, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, and her family traveled to Pu Luong. Initially, she was hesitant when she heard about the landslide in the tourist area. However, after receiving advice from the owner of the tourism business, her family decided to continue the trip. She noticed that the landslide sites had been barricaded by local authorities, warning signs had been placed, and there were instructions to take another route.

Head of the Economic Department of Pu Luong Commune, Ha Van Tung, said: "Up to now, the local authorities have coordinated with other units to handle small landslides, ensuring smooth traffic and serving tourism at the end of the year. For large landslides, the commune has reported and requested departments and branches to advise the Provincial People's Committee to support funding for building anti-landslide embankments and reinforcing key locations. As for the road to Don village, the road is temporarily closed to ensure safety, and signs are arranged to guide tourists to take alternative routes, so as not to disrupt experiential tourism activities."

Based on the local report, the Provincial People's Committee has decided to support 7 billion VND to handle the road to Don village. Currently, Pu Luong commune is preparing the investment steps, striving to implement from mid-December 2025 and complete in early 2026. Repairing traffic routes after storms plays an important role in developing community tourism in Pu Luong. The funding support from the province will help the locality to completely handle major landslides, build anti-erosion embankments and restore the road surface, ensuring long-term safety for people and tourists.

Currently, traffic at community tourism sites in Kho Muong has been cleared and is welcoming visitors back to normal. However, the commune still recommends that tourism businesses and visitors follow information from the locality and comply with traffic diversion instructions to ensure absolute safety during the year-end tourist season.
