One of the highlights of Pung Banh commune is the integration of environmental protection with school education . At Pung Banh Secondary School, the environmental protection movement has become a familiar activity. Every week, students and teachers clean the classroom, pull weeds, take care of flower beds, and collect trash around the school.
Teacher Dao Xuan Cuong, Principal of Pung Banh Secondary School, said: We consider environmental education an important part of the moral training program for students. Students not only learn knowledge in class but also experience it directly through activities such as planting trees, cleaning the classroom or writing messages about environmental protection. From small things like not littering, saving water, saving electricity, students have formed good habits. When their awareness is raised, those habits will spread to each family.
The connection between local authorities, schools and the community has created a strong ripple effect. On every occasion of a general cleaning campaign, youth union members, women's union members, veterans, youth union members and students all participate together. Programs such as: "Blossoming Road", "Lighting Up the Countryside Road", or "Green - Clean - Beautiful Self-Managed Road" not only change the appearance of Pung Banh commune but also contribute to raising awareness of the people in the commune.
The organizations link the implementation of environmental criteria with the movements and activities of the association, such as: The Commune Women's Union actively implements the movement "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean"; promotes the movement "Volunteer Saturday", "Green Sunday" in the Youth Union; The Association of the Elderly, the Veterans Association assigns tasks to members to be in charge of self-managed roads. Assigns members to help single-parent households and policy families build toilets and dig family garbage pits. Every week, the villages mobilize people to carry out general environmental sanitation, dredging and clearing sewers.

Mr. Vi Van Dinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pung Banh Commune, shared: Right after implementing the 2-level local government, environmental protection in Pung Banh Commune was identified by the Party Committee and the commune government as one of the key tasks associated with sustainable economic and social development. To solve the problem, the commune focused on solutions from changing people's awareness and actions; promoting propaganda and mobilizing people to actively implement environmental protection measures on the loudspeaker system of the commune and village; encouraging production and livestock development associated with environmental protection.
Every year, Pung Banh commune organizes a signing of a commitment between the People's Committee of the commune and schools, commune health stations, mass organizations, and village management boards on environmental sanitation, including environmental sanitation in the village's conventions and covenants. Regarding waste from livestock and poultry farming, people are encouraged to collect and treat it to fertilize crops and build barns away from houses. In 2025, the commune will also coordinate with specialized agencies to organize 2 training courses on food safety, use of pesticides, and proper collection and treatment of waste for the people.
From 2023, the collection and treatment of household waste has been contracted with Son La Urban Environmental Services Joint Stock Company - Sop Cop Branch. Accordingly, waste collection will be carried out twice a week in residential areas, with 8 fixed points on main roads in the commune.
Mr. Vi Van Thoa, Party cell secretary, head of Keo Hin village, Pung Banh commune, said: The village has 157 households, 714 people, with 100% of them being Thai ethnic group. The village management board has organized a signing of a commitment between the village management board and the households on ensuring environmental sanitation, including environmental sanitation in the village's convention. Currently, 80 households have mini garbage pits and household waste is classified, collected and treated at mini incinerators by households in the village. In addition, people are also educated on the proper use of pesticides, and after use, the shells are collected and put in storage tanks. For many years now, the cleaning of internal roads in the village has become routine, and people in the village are aware of the benefits of environmental protection.

Adhering to environmental criterion No. 17, Pung Banh commune has focused on preserving green space to create a bright, green, clean and beautiful landscape. Since the beginning of the year, with the commune budget and a part of socialization, the People's Committee of Pung Banh commune has supported nearly 200 trees, and at the same time assigned the villages to actively mobilize people to plant trees at the village cultural houses and on the main roads in the commune, after planting, they will take care of and protect them. In addition, the commune has also encouraged people to plant more than 130 hectares of production forest, contributing to greening bare land and hills, creating a clean environment and protecting water resources.
Thanks to the effective implementation of synchronous measures, by 2023, Pung Banh commune had completed the environmental criteria in the national criteria for new rural communes. 100% of households do not keep livestock and poultry under the floor or close to the house; over 90% of households have hygienic toilets; 80% of households raising livestock have biogas tanks. Currently, 100% of households in villages with garbage collection points agree to socialize and pay for garbage collection by Son La Urban Environmental Services and Joint Stock Company - Sop Cop Branch; and in 3 highland villages, Pung Cuom, Pha Thong, Huoi Cop, because garbage collection vehicles cannot enter, people have dug holes to bury garbage at home,...
Today's Cake Offering is gradually becoming cleaner and more beautiful. People are aware that protecting the environment is protecting their own lives.
