Talking to Lao Dong about the current situation of kidney failure, Dr. Huynh Le Anh Tuan (Department of Kidney - Artificial Kidney, Can Tho Central General Hospital) said: Previously, chronic kidney failure was often considered a disease of the elderly, over time and other diseases, the function of organs in the body declines.
However, chronic kidney disease is currently showing a trend of getting younger. Statistics show that in the first 6 months of this year, the proportion of people under 40 years old hospitalized with a diagnosis of chronic kidney failure accounted for 15%. This is one of the reasons why hospitals are overloaded with dialysis patients.
"Kidney failure is a public health problem. The hospital's Kidney and Artificial Kidney Department has recently been overloaded with patients coming for examination, as well as emergency treatment/dialysis.
With 40 beds, the Kidney - Artificial Kidney Department previously served enough people in the Mekong Delta. However, currently, the number of seriously ill patients hospitalized for dialysis is almost always full, sometimes two patients share one bed" - Doctor Tuan said.
The doctor added that there are currently many patients in need of long-term treatment at Can Tho Central General Hospital, but the number of dialysis patients has reached its maximum, so the doctor is forced to advise patients to return to their hometowns for dialysis.
Faced with the alarming disease situation, doctors recommend that people should build a healthy lifestyle (including drinking enough water, eating clean food, exercising regularly, limiting staying up late, stress, using stimulants, especially drugs on the market without medical instructions); have regular health check-ups; get medical check-ups early when there are any signs of suspected kidney disease; once the disease is detected, it is necessary to persevere and treat it long-term.
