Emotional management

Before the end of the school year, my daughter relayed a question from her classmates: "Where are your parents taking you on vacation this year?" I shook my head and said, "We're on holiday this year."

Emotional management

The girl seemed unhappy. She said that her father, the head of the parent-teacher association, couldn't even make a decision on such a small matter. How am I going to tell my friends about this?

I knew it wouldn't be easy for my child to say no to their classmates. Before the end of the school year, they trusted me and the other parents in the association to agree to the end-of-year trip , as they had done before, so they readily accepted their classmates' offer.

The children's difficulties are only part of the problem; the difficulties faced by the adults in the class's parent association are much greater. They have to figure out how to prevent the children from being disappointed in their parents, but also to avoid violating school regulations.

I was startled to recall that just last year, the parent association had to prepare explanatory reports, attend and answer many unwanted questions at meetings to clarify the school trips and expenditures from the class fund, as requested by the authorities. The whole thing started with the opinions of some parents in the school about the students' trips being too expensive and ostentatious.

Long field trips and so-called "extracurricular" activities that require parents to pay for are becoming increasingly common in many schools. Many parents agree with and encourage this practice, but have they ever considered the different perspectives of those in the classroom?

Many parents strive to make their children like their peers. They work hard to earn money to support their children's education throughout the school year, and even during summer vacation, they still struggle to earn money so their children can travel, sometimes spending up to 5 to 6 million VND per student. Meanwhile, most children are content with just traveling.

Some schools prohibit teachers and parent associations from organizing trips or student-led excursions, not only to alleviate the financial burden on many families but also to reduce potential risks during unsafe trips or field trips. However, this practice has not been widely supported by parent associations, as many children still believe that if other classes or schools can go on trips, then they can too.

Showing love to children is necessary, but it must be done correctly. Good guidance on lifestyle, emotional management, and money management will help children be better equipped to face life. Especially for children, don't let the fact that other classes or schools have trips organized by their parents put pressure on adults.
