The program is part of a series of activities towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and is associated with the plan to organize the Workshop "Military Region 4 - Resilient Frontline, Solid Rear".
Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, emotionally recalled the heroic history of the Ngu Thuy Women's Artillery Company, often affectionately called "Xe Gai", established on November 21, 1967 with 37 female soldiers aged 16 to 22, who were members of a local cooperative.
During 10 years of operation (1967-1977), the unit achieved many outstanding feats, typically shooting down American warships 5 times, receiving a letter of praise from Uncle Ho and being awarded many noble medals.

Delegates at the Ngu Thuy female artillery monument |
On August 25, 1970, the unit was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. The feats of the female artillerymen of Ngu Thuy became the inspiration for the construction of the Ngu Thuy female artillery monument right at the old battlefield and was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Relic.
After the war, the mothers became responsible women in production, some of them contributed to the process of building the increasingly innovative homeland. Now, although life is still difficult and they are old, the mothers and grandmothers are always role models for their children and grandchildren to follow.
“The example of mothers and aunts is a living testament to the patriotism, the silent sacrifice and the loyalty of Vietnamese women. Today's gifts are a heartfelt gratitude from the heart, from the generation living in peace to the generation that has devoted their youth to the Fatherland. We are also always aware that this meeting is an opportunity to review, to be more proud of the heroic memories of the nation and to deepen our deep gratitude and appreciation to the aunts - the steadfast women who have devoted their youth, not sparing their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland" - Major General Doan Xuan Bo emotionally said.

Ms. Tran Thi Than, former Political Commissar of Ngu Thuy Women's Artillery Company, spoke at the gift-giving ceremony. |
Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Than, former Political Commissar of the Ngu Thuy Women's Artillery Company, Head of the Company's Liaison Committee, could not help but be moved as she shared that although the distance was not too far, due to living conditions, the former young people of "Xe gai" rarely had the opportunity to meet in large numbers. However, when they were able to gather together like today, it was an opportunity for the women to meet and share memories of the time with the artillery and even the daily stories in their current lives.
At the ceremony, delegates presented 72 gifts, each worth 2 million VND, to former female artillery militiamen, and also presented souvenirs to leaders of Ngu Thuy and Ngu Thuy Bac communes.
