After two victories over Daegu FC and Ulsan Citizen with the same score of 2-0, the Vietnamese team confidently entered the final friendly match of their training trip in Korea. Compared to the two previous "defeated generals", Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club is at a higher level. This team has won the Korean championship 9 times, and is also where Mr. Kim Sang-sik made his mark both as a player and as head coach.
However, like Daegu FC, Jeonbuk are in the midst of a relegation battle as they struggle in the play-offs. Therefore, Mr. Kim's former team cannot field their best lineup.
On the other hand, coach Kim Sang-sik also continuously experimented. In the first half, the Vietnamese team took the field with a midfield consisting of Chau Ngoc Quang, Nguyen Van Truong, and Le Pham Thanh Long, while on the attack line, Nguyen Quang Hai played with Dinh Thanh Binh.
Quang Hai continues to leave his mark
The two teams started the match at a fast pace with a balanced game, before Quang Hai scored to put Vietnam ahead in the 10th minute. This was Quang Hai's second goal in two consecutive matches. In the match against Daegu FC, the midfielder born in 1997 also opened the score for Vietnam with a tricky low shot. Pushing Quang Hai to play high, approaching the penalty area and searching for space to shoot is helping coach Kim Sang-sik have an effective source of goals.
In the 29th minute, the gap was doubled for the Vietnamese team when Thanh Binh rushed in to finish from close range.
With a 2-goal advantage, the Vietnamese team took the initiative to play solidly in the second half. Coach Kim Sang-sik continued to experiment with players by putting many new players on the field, mixing mainstays with rookies.
Compared to the first half, Jeonbuk put more pressure on the second half, focusing on pressing the team, making it difficult for the Vietnamese team to deploy the ball. In the 56th minute, the Korean representative scored a goal to shorten the score, making the match more unpredictable.
The Vietnamese team defended with all their might under pressure, and then in the last minute, center back Do Duy Manh made the right call with a goal that sealed the 3-1 victory.
Thus, the Vietnamese team ended 3 friendly matches in Korea with a perfect record of victories. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will end their training trip on December 3 to return home to prepare for the 2024 AFF Cup.
