Da Nang City is known by many as a dynamic and integrated city. In particular, when the art stage of the DIFF 2025 International Fireworks Festival opens, people will see a Da Nang with depth, identity, and people working quietly behind the lights.
Among them, Meritorious Artist Quang Hao, Director of Trung Vuong Theater, is one of the people who helped Da Nang step out into the world not only through events, but also through art imbued with urban spirit.
Stage - a space for emotional resonance
For many audiences who attended the performances at DIFF this year, the general feeling was not only “eye-catching”, but also “touching emotions”. That is the result of a directorial way of thinking that does not focus on showing off, but on the emotional flow throughout.
The 4 programs that Quang Hao directed with separate themes: "Cultural Essence", "Creative Arts", "Connecting Journey" and "Sustainable Development" were staged by him and his colleagues as slices of the city.
No program is simple or separate, but all contribute to a purposeful whole: shaping the image of a Da Nang that is both profound in heritage, fresh in creativity and always open to the world.
As the general director, Meritorious Artist Quang Hao is the one who holds the source of each program, from the stage of building the theme, choosing the performance, choreographing the stage to regulating the emotional rhythm.
Meritorious Artist Quang Hao shared: “I don’t think the stage is just a place for performances. The stage, especially the outdoor stage within a large festival like DIFF, must be a space for emotional resonance. Each performance is a link, if not arranged in the right place, it will break the chain of association in the audience’s heart.”
Therefore, the programs at DIFF 2025, despite the presence of many different genres, from traditional and folk art to pop, electronic music, and contemporary dance, are still not disjointed. They are connected by the spirit of the city: identity-innovation-integration-sustainability.
According to Meritorious Artist Quang Hao, many small details were carefully edited by him in the days leading up to the festival.
Whether it's a transition that needs to be shortened by a few seconds, a mix that needs to push the tempo to the right climax, or even a small change in the lighting system, it's tested multiple times to ensure the audience "gets the right emotion at the right time."
Those things are not in the script, but can only appear from the sensitivity of someone who has spent many years living with the stage.
For Quang Hao, art is not a competition of effects but a process of dialogue.
What is the point of development if we do not preserve eternal values? That question not only echoed on the final night of DIFF, but was also the question the director asked himself.
"For me, development lies not only in the innovation of form but also in the way a program can connect with cultural depth," Meritorious Artist Quang Hao confided.
Storytelling in the language of modern art
For a long time, Meritorious Artist Quang Hao has been no longer a strange name to the artist community in Da Nang. He grew up on stage, through the role of a performing artist, then became a manager, but the artist in him did not disappear, but instead settled into a professional spirit.
Not following the trend of market performance but also not falling into the rut of “formal nostalgia”, Meritorious Artist Quang Hao’s artistic approach bears the mark of harmony: tradition is preserved but retold in today’s language. That is why young audiences do not find it strange when Bài Chòi appears on a stage with modern lighting or a folk tune suddenly blends smoothly with the melody of rap and world music.
Most recently, in the art program "Da Nang - Fly high with the country" welcoming the city into a new stage of development, director Quang Hao continued to show his thinking of connecting generations.
On stage, contemporary and traditional music are not separate but complement each other. The image of a developing Da Nang is told through real people, real stories from history to today, not through rhetoric, but through everyday, familiar artistic materials.
But what is more important is the persistence. For Meritorious Artist Quang Hao, each program should not be a one-time event and then forgotten.
The programs undertaken by Trung Vuong Theater are always built with a long-term vision, which can be reproduced, expanded or preserved. “Art should not only live during the festival season,” Meritorious Artist Quang Hao added.
In the eyes of his colleagues, Quang Hao is a man of “little talk, much action”; in the eyes of young artists, he is a man willing to give opportunities without imposing stereotypes. And in the eyes of the city, he is a man who quietly, together with the artists of the Theater, creates a solid performing arts foundation, from the most kind and steadfast things.
DIFF 2025 still has one final performance night. But up to this point, it can be affirmed that the artistic mark that Meritorious Artist Quang Hao left behind is not only in stage techniques or lighting effects, but also in the ability to tell stories with emotion and connect with depth.
A unique, humane and modern Da Nang is gradually being built, not only by development policies, but also by culture. This is the nuance and material that contributes to creating the soul of a young and modern city like Da Nang.
