(QNgTV) - On the morning of July 19, the People's Committee of Mo Cay Commune, Quang Ngai Province confirmed that the plastic factory fire occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on July 18, in Dam Thuy Nam Village. The fire was completely extinguished at around 1:00 a.m. on July 19.
According to initial information, at the time of the incident, the factory was locked and no one was working inside. The fire did not cause any casualties because the workers had finished their shift at 6:00 p.m.
According to Ms. H., the factory owner, after the workers left the factory in the evening, all the electricity was turned off and the factory door was locked. The key was given to a woman living nearby. About 2 hours later, this person heard a small explosion and looked through the window to discover fire coming from inside. Although she tried to use a water hose to put out the fire, she was unsuccessful because the fire spread too quickly due to the many flammable materials inside.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Quang Ngai Province Police dispatched 4 fire trucks to the scene. After that, the functional forces continued to reinforce with 10 vehicles and 70 officers and soldiers to control the fire.
Firefighting was difficult due to the large area of the factory, many combustible materials that generate high heat, while the closed structure prevented smoke and heat from escaping. Firefighters had to stay on duty all night to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring residential areas.
According to the People's Committee of Mo Cay Commune, the plastic factory was started by a couple who returned from Ho Chi Minh City to their hometown and hired workers. The factory was about 1,000 square meters wide and had only been in operation for a few months when the fire broke out. Most of the plastic factory, worth more than 7 billion VND, was completely burned down.
