Quang Ngai: Releasing rare pangolins back into the natural environment

On the evening of December 6, a representative of the Tay Tra Commune Police (Quang Ngai) informed that the functional forces of Quang Ngai province had just released a rare and endangered pangolin, handed over by local people, back into the natural environment, in order to improve the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation.

Previously, on December 5, while going to work, Mr. Duong Chau Huy (35 years old) and Mr. Ly Thai Han (31 years old), both living in village 5, Binh Son commune (Quang Ngai) accidentally discovered a stray pangolin in Ha village, Tay Tra mountainous commune ( Quang Ngai ). This area is near people's houses and traffic routes, so to ensure safety, both decided to bring the pangolin to Tay Tra commune police headquarters to hand over.

Through initial verification, the pangolin individual weighed 3.7 kg, was more than 60 cm long; belonged to the Java pangolin family, scientific name is Manis javanica, also known as Java pangolin; classified in group IB, endangered, rare species prioritized for protection, strictly prohibited from exploitation for commercial purposes.

After receiving the animal, Tay Tra Commune Police coordinated with the Commune People's Committee and Forest Protection Department of Region II to carry out the prescribed processes and procedures and release the pangolin back into the natural environment, contributing to conservation, balance, and biodiversity, as well as raising people's awareness in protecting wildlife.
