
Attending the ceremony were comrades: Le Ngoc Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, former Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van Phuong, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee.
Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam; representatives of central ministries and branches; leaders of Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai , Ninh Binh, Tuyen Quang provinces, and relatives and comrades of martyrs attended the ceremony.
53 years ago, on November 14, 1972, at this location on Road 20 Quyet Thang, 8 youth volunteers and 5 artillery soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives while on duty. Hang Tam Co was ranked as a special national monument by the Prime Minister according to Decision No. 2383/QD-TTg dated December 9, 2013.
On September 28, the restoration project of the Tam Co Cave National Monument was started. After 47 days of working closely on the site to organize the construction, the project was completed on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the sacrifice of 13 martyrs at Tam Co Cave.

During the restoration of the cave entrance area that collapsed in November 1972, the authorities discovered remains and relics, confirming the identities of many martyrs. Quang Tri province solemnly organized a memorial service and buried the remains of the martyrs in a common grave right at the location where the martyrs died, to commemorate and pay tribute to the outstanding sons who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The common grave of 13 martyrs was built according to traditional customs of the nation; stone materials were taken from Thanh Hoa and some provinces which are the hometowns of the martyrs.

Along with that, the entire campus of the National Monument of the Eight Ladies Cave and the Memorial Temple of the Heroes and Martyrs of Road 20 Quyet Thang was also designed and restored to ensure the solemnity and respect. The lighting system, other auxiliary and decorative items were renovated, using sustainable materials, friendly to the natural landscape and in accordance with the national cultural identity.

At the ceremony, delegates performed the flower offering and incense offering rituals, expressed gratitude, presented gifts to the martyrs’ relatives, cut the ribbon and visited the renovated project. After the ceremony, the Organizing Committee held a memorial service for the heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed on Route 20 Quyet Thang.
On this occasion, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam, presented gifts to the relatives of the 13 martyrs.
