Vietnam's National Assembly continues to strengthen its position at IPU-148

According to a VNA reporter in Geneva, implementing the 2024 foreign affairs program of senior leaders, at the invitation of the President and Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong led the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation to attend the 148th IPU General Assembly (IPU-148) and related conferences in Switzerland.

At noon on March 24 (local time), the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation attended the opening ceremony of IPU-148 and the plenary session of the General Assembly in Geneva.

The 148th IPU Assembly has the theme “Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Peace and Development.”

Delegates will participate in the main activities of the IPU including plenary sessions of the General Assembly, the Executive Council, meetings of the 4 Standing Committees on: International Peace and Security; Sustainable Development-Finance-Trade; Democracy-Human Rights and United Nations Issues; Women Parliamentarians' Forum; Young Parliamentarians' Forum, Parliamentarians' Human Rights Committee; Asia-Pacific Geopolitical Group (APG), ASEAN + 3 Group; Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) Conference and other thematic discussions.

The Vietnamese National Assembly delegation attended IPU-148 with a total of about 30 official activities.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong, Head of the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation, attended the Opening Ceremony, the Executive Council and delivered a speech at the plenary session.

As planned, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly will meet with the new IPU President and IPU Secretary General, the Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and have bilateral meetings with a number of parliamentary leaders of countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

Delegation members will attend many activities within the framework of IUP-148, including meetings of the IPU Standing Committees, the Women Parliamentarians Forum and the Asia-Pacific Geopolitical Group consultation mechanisms.

Meanwhile, the Conference of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) was held in parallel with the IPU-148 General Assembly.

The delegation of the Secretariat of the National Assembly of Vietnam led by Secretary General of the National Assembly and Head of the Office of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong will attend all activities at the conference with many practical topics related to the advisory and service work of parliamentary activities of countries...

The participation of the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation in IPU-148 and related conferences aims to implement the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress and Directive 25 of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy to 2030.

The Vietnamese National Assembly delegation attending the 148th IPU Assembly and related conferences affirmed its commitment to proactively and responsibly participate in Vietnam's multilateral parliamentary diplomacy activities; continue to promote the role and position of Vietnam and our National Assembly in regional and international parliamentary cooperation mechanisms, contributing to promoting the State's diplomatic activities for the national and ethnic interests./.
