The Vietnamese national flag was raised at the flag-raising ceremony of Southeast Asian countries participating in the 33rd SEA Games held on the afternoon of December 8 at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium Square (Thailand).
According to the tradition at major regional, continental and world sports events, the flag-raising ceremony is held to acknowledge the presence of participating countries and welcome sports delegations to the event, encouraging the competitive spirit of athletes. The Vietnamese sports delegation attending the flag-raising ceremony includes all delegation officials, except doctors accompanying the teams, along with 22 swimming athletes.
At exactly 3:25 p.m. on December 8, the Vietnamese national flag flew in the sky of Hua Mark Indoor Stadium Square along with the flags of 10 Southeast Asian countries. The Vietnamese national flag appeared near the end of the ceremony, right before the flag-raising ceremony of the host country Thailand. In the past few days, many Vietnamese sports delegations have left for Bangkok to prepare for the competitions at the congress. The men's football, women's football, badminton, handball, baseball teams... took to the field in the first matches, taking place before the opening day.

Vietnam participated in the 33rd SEA Games with 1,165 members, including 191 coaches; 841 athletes competing in 47 sports and disciplines. The Vietnamese sports delegation set a target of achieving 91 to 110 gold medals, aiming to maintain its position among the leading groups in Southeast Asia.
Head of the Vietnamese sports delegation Nguyen Hong Minh said that the Vietnamese sports delegation is in the process of rejuvenating its forces, but with careful preparation, it is hoped that each national athlete and each team will compete with determination, competing fairly with very strong opponents in the region such as Thailand, Indonesia or Singapore, creating a foundation towards continental and international sports stature through official competitions such as ASIAD, Olympics...
The Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) said it will award 200 million VND to Vietnamese martial artists who win gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games. In team competitions, 1 billion VND will be awarded to the men's and women's indoor volleyball teams if they win gold medals.
