Vietnam Airlines' new procedure is applied according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's Directive on promoting the deployment of technological solutions to serve people and businesses associated with population data, identification and electronic authentication.
According to this directive, only passengers with checked baggage and special groups such as the elderly, children traveling alone or people needing assistance will continue to check in at the counter.
All remaining passengers will have to complete all steps from buying tickets, checking in, going through security checks to boarding the plane through a biometric application solution integrated with VNeID electronic identification, or at the self-service kiosk system at the airport.
Vietnam Airlines said this change is aimed at shortening waiting times, increasing accuracy through biometric verification, and reducing the risk of missing flights due to forgetting to bring identification documents. The airline strongly recommends that passengers authenticate their VNeID account at level 2 to fully utilize the utility and limit errors that arise during the check-in process.
