In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam will make a breakthrough in attracting international visitors, leading the Asia-Pacific region.

(GLO)- According to data compiled by UN Tourism, in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam will lead the Asia-Pacific region in international visitor growth, exceeding 30% compared to the first quarter of 2024, and rank second in international visitor recovery, increasing by 34% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

According to the UN Tourism report, in the first quarter of 2025, there will be more than 300 million international tourist arrivals worldwide, an increase of more than 14 million compared to the same period in 2024. This means an increase of 5% compared to the same period last year and 3% compared to 2019.

Vietnam leads the Asia- Pacific region in international tourist arrival growth, up 30% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Globally, in the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam ranked 6th in international tourist arrival growth and 4th in total tourism revenue growth, up 29% compared to the same period in 2024.

By region, Europe is the world's largest destination, recording 125 million international tourists in the first three months of 2025, up 2% compared to the same period in 2024, followed by Africa (+9%), the Americas (+2%), the Middle East (+1%). Asia Pacific is expected to see the highest growth (+12%).

Compared to the first quarter of 2019, the Middle East recovered the best (144%); followed by Africa (144%), Europe (105%), and the Americas (103%). Asia-Pacific is still recovering, reaching 91% compared to the same period in 2019.

At the first Government Conference with localities after implementing the 2-level local government model, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed tourism as one of the 10 highlights in the first 6 months of 2025. Accordingly, international visitors recovered strongly; in June, it reached nearly 1.5 million arrivals, up 17.1%; in 6 months, it reached nearly 10.7 million arrivals, up 20.7%.

According to Bloomberg, Vietnam is emerging as the third most visited country in Southeast Asia with 17.5 million international visitors last year - surpassing Singapore, behind Malaysia with 25 million visitors and Thailand with 35 million visitors.

Experts say that the increasing number of direct flights from other countries to Vietnam is the leading factor helping Vietnamese tourism take off.
