Launching the National Language Promotion Association

Following Comrade Truong Chinh's suggestion, the Northern Regional Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party mobilized the establishment of a public organization to combat illiteracy.
In May 1938, comrades Tran Huy Lieu, Dang Thai Mai, Vo Nguyen Giap, along with a number of progressive intellectuals, established the "Association for the Propagation of the National Language," with Mr. Nguyen Van To, a well-known progressive intellectual, as its president.
On May 25, 1938, the Association for the Promotion of the National Language officially launched at the headquarters of the Hanoi Sports Association. In a short time, thanks to the close guidance of the Party organization, the eagerness to learn among the masses, and the efforts of its members, including patriotic intellectuals, students, and university students, the movement quickly became an organized mass movement and achieved positive results.
The movement continued to grow strongly, and after the August Revolution of 1945, the Association became a core force for the illiteracy eradication movement and the popular education campaign.
The renowned scholar Bui Huy Bich has passed away.
The renowned scholar Bui Huy Bich passed away on May 25, 1818. He was from Dinh Cong village, and later resided in Thinh Liet village, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.
In 1762, during the reign of Emperor Lê Hiển Tông, he passed the Hương Cống examination. In 1769, at the young age of 25, he passed the Tiến sĩ (Doctorate) examination and was appointed as the Head of the Hanlin Academy. He was then promoted to Thị chế (Chief Clerk), and subsequently received the position of Thiên sai tri hộ phiên (Heavenly Commissioner of the Protectorate), concurrently holding the position of Đông các hiệu thư (Head of the Eastern Pavilion). In 1777, he served as the Governor of Nghệ An , later concurrently holding the positions of Tả thị lang (Left Vice Minister) of the Ministry of Personnel and Hành tham tụng (Acting Grand Councilor).
He was an upright official, never seeking favors, and his words and deeds served as a role model for others.
Bui Huy Bich left behind works such as "Bich Cau Tien Hau", "Nghe An Collection of Poems", "Thai Lien", "Ton Am Van Cao", "Hoang Viet Thi Tuyen", "Quoc Trieu Chinh Dai Luc", and "Lich Trieu Thi Sao".
King Gia Long invited him to become an official, but he refused.
Poet and Martyr Le Anh Xuan sacrificed his life.
The poet Ca Lê Hiến, known by his famous pen name Lê Anh Xuân, bravely sacrificed his life on May 25, 1968, in the vicinity of Saigon at the young age of 28.
He was born on June 5, 1940, in Vam Nuoc Trong, Tan Binh commune, Mo Cay district, Ben Tre province. In 1952, he left home early to work as a typesetter at the Trinh Dinh printing house of the Southern Education Department. In 1954, he moved to the North and graduated from the History Department of the University of Hanoi, then stayed on as a lecturer.
Shortly afterwards, he was sent abroad for further studies, but he requested to return to his homeland to fight. At the end of 1964, he returned to the South as part of a delegation of education officials working in the Central Propaganda Subcommittee, and then transferred to work at the Liberation Arts and Literature Association.
Throughout his career, Ca Lê Hiến composed valuable poetry collections such as "The Rooster's Crow," "Coconut Flowers," and "The Epic of Nguyễn Văn Trỗi," including the famous and outstanding poem "The Stance of Vietnam."
Establish the Organization of African Unity
The Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established on May 25, 1963, in Ali Abeba (Ethiopia) with the participation of more than 50 member countries.
