On the evening of December 8, Khanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theater performed a report performance of the historical play "Admiral Bui Thi Xuan" before members of the Arts Council of the Department of Culture and Sports , and a large audience.
The play “Admiral Bui Thi Xuan”, scriptwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc, director People’s Artist Nguyen Hoai Hue, music Nguyen Huu Tri, art design Tran Nguyen Quang Nhut, choreographer Do Thi Kim Tien… performed by a group of artists and actors from Khanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theater.

In the span of more than 150 minutes, the play “Admiral Bui Thi Xuan” tells a historical story from 1798 (six years after Emperor Quang Trung passed away, the Tay Son dynasty was under the reign of King Nguyen Quang Toan) to 1802 (Nguyen Phuc Anh defeated the Tay Son dynasty, ascended the throne, and took the reign name Gia Long, opening the Nguyen dynasty).
During the four-year period, the Tay Son court had treacherous ministers who took advantage of the king's young age to collude and overthrow the dynasty, causing the great cause of the Tay Son dynasty to fall into a storm. In the meantime, loyal ministers and brave generals of the Tay Son dynasty such as Admiral Bui Thi Xuan and her husband - Thieu Pho Tran Quang Dieu, Dai Tu Do Vu Van Dung... still fought with all their hearts against the Nguyen Anh army, helping the king to eliminate traitors and evil. But before the increasingly powerful Nguyen Anh army, the Tay Son army became increasingly weak. Thieu Pho Tran Quang Dieu and Dai Tu Do Vu Van Dung fought with the Nguyen Anh army until their army was exhausted, their food ran out and they themselves were captured; Admiral Bui Thi Xuan fought to the end, and when she was exhausted, she was captured alive. Nguyen Anh used all means to intimidate her, but she still did not surrender. Then, Nguyen Anh had her soldiers execute her in the most barbaric ways. Despite defeat at the hands of Nguyen Anh, Admiral Bui Thi Xuan, her husband and the brave generals of the Tay Son dynasty lived their entire lives with the ideal: The loyalty of lord and subject, we are not ashamed of ourselves/The loyalty of king and subject, we are not ashamed of our country.

Overall, this is a play with good content, good ideological themes, and high artistic value; the staging and performance meet the requirements of a historical play, but also suit the needs of today's audiences. However, there are still some problems in the acting of the main actors, as well as the duration of the performances that need to be further edited to be more complete.
