Renault has just launched the all-new Twingo E-Tech Electric for the European market, inspired by the 1992 Twingo but with an electric approach and clear practicality. The model is expected to cost less than 20,000 euros, produced at the Novo Mesto plant (Slovenia) with the first deliveries in early 2026. The new Twingo is also a strategic move for Renault to directly compete with low-cost electric cars from China such as the BYD Seagull (Dolphin Surf), while also evoking nostalgic feelings for European users.
Compact, convenient 4-door retro design
The Twingo E-Tech Electric's appearance is faithful to the original Twingo DNA: round headlights, three small air vents on the hood and a recognizable square body. The front and rear lights are symmetrical in shape: the front lights serve as night lighting, while the rear lights have three bulbs that act as reverse lights, turn signals and fog lights.
The cabin is a mix of modern and retro, using bright tones combined with dark plastic details. Decorative accents appear on the center of the seats and the door surfaces. Unlike the original two-door Twingo, the new version switches to a four-door configuration, significantly improving accessibility and everyday usability.

27.5 kWh LFP battery: 262 km WLTP, 50 kW DC charging, with V2L
The Twingo E-Tech Electric uses a 27.5 kWh LFP battery. According to the WLTP standard, the car has a range of 163 miles (262 km), which equates to an efficiency of around 6 miles/kWh (nearly 9.7 km/kWh). Switching to LFP chemistry allows Renault to reduce costs by around 20%, despite having a lower energy density than NMC batteries.
Charging capabilities are optimized for urban needs: DC fast charging up to 50 kW, charging from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes; AC charging 11 kW full battery in 2 hours 35 minutes. The vehicle supports two-way charging (V2L) with a capacity of 3.7 kW to supply power to external devices when needed.
80 horsepower, 175 Nm engine: enough for European highways
The electric motor on the Twingo produces 80 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h are suitable for inner-city driving and are capable of participating in highways in Europe. The vehicle weighs about 1,200 kg.
The model shares its chassis platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech, promising stable and enjoyable handling in urban environments thanks to its compact size and weight distribution typical of electric vehicles.
Practicality: 17 cm sliding rear seat, 360–1,000 litres of storage
Space is a key focus for Renault. The two rear seats can slide independently by 17 cm, allowing users to flexibly choose between legroom and luggage compartment capacity. The standard storage capacity is 360 liters, expandable to 1,000 liters when the rear seats are folded.
Price, production and market strategy
The Twingo E-Tech Electric is aimed at a price below 20,000 euros, competing directly with low-cost electric cars such as the BYD Seagull (Dolphin Surf). The car will be produced at the Novo Mesto plant (Slovenia), with first deliveries scheduled for early 2026. Renault hopes that European consumers will prefer domestic brands if the selling price is comparable to cars from China.
Renault also confirmed that there will be a "sister" version under the Dacia brand, starting at 18,000 euros, assembled at the same factory to serve cost-conscious customers.
